Pat Robertson, host of Christian Broadcasting Network's The 700 Club and founder of the Christian Coalition of America, called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

From the August 22 broadcast of The 700 Club:

ROBERTSON: There was a popular coup that overthrew him [Chavez]. And what did the United States State Department do about it? Virtually nothing. And as a result, within about 48 hours that coup was broken; Chavez was back in power, but we had a chance to move in. He has destroyed the Venezuelan economy, and he's going to make that a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism all over the continent.

You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it. It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war. And I don't think any oil shipments will stop. But this man is a terrific danger and the United ... This is in our sphere of influence, so we can't let this happen. We have the Monroe Doctrine, we have other doctrines that we have announced. And without question, this is a dangerous enemy to our south, controlling a huge pool of oil, that could hurt us very badly. We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability. We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.

Such wonderful sentiments from a "Man of God". I wonder how many people have turned away from God thanks to the comments and acts of men such as this?

He's certainly misled a lot of people. Robertson should be thinking about millstones.

From http://Patridiots.com:

Should Ministers Be Advocating Murder?

First alleged Christian Jimmy Swaggert says that if a gay man looked at him funny he'd murder the guy and then "tell God he died."

Now alleged Christian Pat Robertson is advocating the murder of a democratically elected foreign head of state, President Hugo Chavez of Venezuella.

I call these two idiots "alleged Christians" because right up there in the 10 Commandments -- it's number six -- is "Thou Shalt Not Kill."

And in case they aren't interested in the whole Old Testament thing, how about the updated version of this commandment?

Matthew 5:21 You have heard that it was said to your ancestors, 'You shall not kill; and whoever kills will be liable to judgment.'

22 But I say to you, whoever is angry 18 with his brother will be liable to judgment, and whoever says to his brother, 'Raqa,' will be answerable to the Sanhedrin, and whoever says, 'You fool,' will be liable to fiery Gehenna.

23 Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar, and there recall that your brother has anything against you,

24 leave your gift there at the altar, go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

That last line is pretty important. Jesus -- the Son of God -- is the one who would be receiving a gift given at an altar. He says that if you are angry with your brother and wish him ill will (like, say, wanting to murder him?) then Jesus doesn't want you to make that gift.

Jesus is so disgusted with people like Swaggart and Robinson that he won't even accept tribute or gifts from them.
