WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama's adviser Van Jones has resigned amid controversy over past inflammatory statements, the White House said early Sunday. Jones, an administration official specializing in environmentally friendly "green jobs" with the White House Council on Environmental Quality was linked to efforts suggesting a government role in the 2001 terror attacks and to derogatory comments about Republicans. The resignation comes as Obama is working to regain his footing in the contentious health care debate. Jones issued an apology on Thursday for his past statements. When asked the next day whether Obama still had confidence in him, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said only that Jones "continues to work in the administration." The matter surfaced after news reports of a derogatory comment Jones made in the past about Republicans, and separately, of Jones' name appearing on a petition connected to the events surrounding the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks. That 2004 petition had asked for congressional hearings and other investigations into whether high-level government officials had allowed the attacks to occur. "On the eve of historic fights for health care and clean energy, opponents of reform have mounted a vicious smear campaign against me," Jones said in his resignation statement. "They are using lies and distortions to distract and divide." Jones said he has been "inundated with calls from across the political spectrum urging me to stay and fight." But he said he cannot in good conscience ask his colleagues to spend time and energy defending or explaining his past. Jones flatly said in an earlier statement that he did not agree with the petition's stand on the 9/11 attacks and that "it certainly does not reflect my views, now or ever." As for his other comments he made before joining Obama's team, Jones said, "If I have offended anyone with statements I made in the past, I apologize." Despite his apologies, Republicans demanded Jones quit. Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana said in a statement, "His extremist views and coarse rhetoric have no place in this administration or the public debate." Missouri Sen. Christopher Bonds said Congress should investigate Jones's fitness the job. Fox News Channel host Glenn Beck repeatedly denounced Jones after a group the adviser co-founded, ColorofChange.org, led an advertising boycott against Beck's show to protest his claim that Obama is a racist. James Rucker, the organization's executive director, has said Jones had nothing to do with ColorofChange.org now and didn't even know about the campaign before it started. Jones, well-known in the environmental movement, was a civil-rights activist in California before shifting his attention to environmental and energy issues. He is known for laying out a broad vision of a green economy. Nancy Sutley chair of the council, said in a statement released early Sunday that she accepts Jones resignation and thanked him for his service. "Over the last six months, he had been a strong voice for creating jobs that improve energy efficiency and utilize renewable resources," she said. "We appreciate his hard work and wish him the best moving forward." ___ Associated Press writer Philip Elliott contributed to this report.

Don't minimize the painting of this administration as hard left. There is no way to remove every leech in government, but what Van Jones did was challenge Obama's judgement. I personally wish Jones had stayed on. Simply by using his own words in context, showed millions of people who Obama is associated with, and that kind of publicity can't be purchased at any price.
Oh yes there is. Eventually, Americans shall show this administration what real CHANGE is. He will eat his own words.

I think Beck knows his time is limited so he's firing all of his guns. You know they'll come after him, but they are eventually coming after all who expose s'bags so they all should follow by example.
There is more here than meets the eye or fits with the spin. Were it just a matter of his being a black racist that would have been papered over and then made off-limits. I suspect that the real reason he was let go was his 911 "Inside Job" comment that made it into the public domain. It just wouldn't do to have a high ranking official expressing doubt about the biggest PsyOp of the Century. Oh'bummer, had he had kept him, would have had to face questions about his own "thoughts" on 911 and whether he agreed with Van's comment - if only tacitly given that the craven Presstitutes of the Lamestream Mediawhores would not dare broach the subject. Given that Oh'bummer, like Bush, is controlled by the same group who were likely the real impetus and perpetrators behind the 911 PsyOp it would have been a very ticklish situation. The "Official Conspiracy Theory®" is, at this point, being held together only with chewing gum and bailing wire. The controllers control grid has gotten somewhat ragged as more people wake up to the massive scale of the social and psychiatric manipulations of our society. So, it would not be good, from their viewpoint, to have something else out there that runs counter to the Perception Management/Social Control Program. The types of Social Control through Information Control manipulations that they are relying on requires that the subjects not become aware of the manipulations, or any information running counter to the programming. When such information gets out it cuts through their control lines. People who are aware they are being manipulated, and how, cease to be under control.

Of course there could be an element of what you earlier mentioned on inflaming, or at least increasing, racial tensions. The Black Community is the most heavily and readily manipulated group because of the overall low education level. People who are ignorant are the easiest to manipulate - which is the "WHY" for dumbing down the Publik Skools and creating dysfunction skools, and planting an anti-education meme, in the Black Community. Educated Blacks, allowing for the normal variance in individuals, react very similarly to any other educated person. However, I suspect, as I outlined that the reason, the real reason, for jettisoning Van was the 911 issue/comment. The elites cannot allow the "Official Conspiracy Theory®" to be questioned by anyone in a publicly prominent official position.

However, if they did know they evidently thought no one would make a point of mentioning it. No data needed OI. Check history on political appointees. Many have had to walk the plank and be sent home. However, of those I can recall NONE were thrown out for readily available public information. As long as Oh'bummer remains in the Offal Office that is the over-riding "Trump" on the race card. Actually I see it as "a wash". Van as an outspoken individual who had expressed doubt about the 911 "Official Conspiracy Theory®" vitiated his marxist racialism. Actually since he was known as such it would have brought more light on what the Oh'bummer maladministration was up to. That they also could not have.

Interesting assumption - I happen to agree with you. Beck is unloading whatever he can into Belly Of The Beast knowing full well FOX is under extreme pressure from the WH...fortunately this is a Win-Win for us. Worse case is he gets fired, the 0bama-Davis gubmint is exposed for the Reichmeisters they are (even if FOX takes the bullet for them) and Beck becomes a martyr. His comments, even in recent years, were often racially charged. He's blamed "white polluters and white environmentalists" for "steering poison" to minority communities.
