Skeptics have argued that expert marksmen could not duplicate Oswald's alleged feat in their first try during re-enactments by the Warren Commission (1964) and CBS (1967). In those tests the marksmen attempted to hit the target three times within 5.6 seconds. This time span has been heavily disputed. The Warren Commission itself estimated that the time span between the two shots that hit President Kennedy was 4.8 to 5.6 seconds. If the second shot missed (assuming the first and third shots hit the president), then 4.8 to 5.6 seconds was the total time span of the shots. If the first or third shot missed, that would give a minimum time of 7.1 to 7.9 seconds for the three shots.[27] Modern analysis of a digitally enhanced Zapruder film suggests that the first, second, and final shot may have taken 8.3 seconds.

Many of CBS's 11 volunteer marksmen, who (unlike Oswald) had no prior experience with a properly "sighted" Carcano, were able to hit the test target two times in under the time allowed. The only man who scored three hits was a firearms examiner from Maryland by the name of Howard Donahue.

Not a very hard shot at all.

Carlos Hathcock was the greatest Marine sniper of the Vietnam war. He tried several time to duplicate the shot the Warren Commission said Oswald made and concluded it was impossible.

But the point is that the shot could not have been made by Oswald as the Zapruder film clearly shows the ahot came from the opposite direction of the School Vook Depository.

LHO's rifle was open-sights, or iron sights, right?

No scope?

THe calculation of the time span is from the firing of the first shot to the firing of the last shot. Some people have tried to make this span impossible by thinking that, somehow, the cocking and pointing of the rifle for the first shot must also be within that span, but this is wrong. Oswald could have cocked that rifle minutes earlier and taken his time sighting his target before the first trigger pull.

From Oswald's window the presidential limo was moving almost in a line directly away from Oswald, with very little right-left shift. Some people who have experience with rifles say this makes it relatively easy.

When the audio evidence is collated with the the available video footage, it becomes evident that there were not three, but five shots, which makes the feat even more difficult.

At any rate, some of the blabbermouths that spout off how easy a shot from the Book Depository Building would have been need to go to the range some time with your average military suplus rifle and try to hit an six-inch target consistently from a bench rest position at 100 yards. Then try it off-hand and then at a moving target. Or go out an try to hit a critter running in the woods.

You folks have no damned idea.

Did they reconstruct the location, angles, movements and obstructions at the site or was this done at a range without the impediments? Hitting a target 3 times at that range in the alloted time (timer starts at first shot) can easily be done with some practice in the open with a stationary target.

Conspiracists ignore the fact the first round was already loaded. Fire, work the bolt, fire, work the bolt, fire.

Not, work the bolt, fire, work the bolt, fire, work the bolt fire. That would add quite a few seconds if he did it that way.

The above image is the rifle that Oswald used to supposedly shoot JFK.

It has a scope on it.

Have you ever used s scope to follow a moving target?

No, I would wager you haven't. It would be the equivalent to taking a dime, and holding it up in front of you at arm's length. That would be your viewing area. Your angle of trajectory, your window of opportunity would be nil after the first shot was fired.

I have already explained to you that you are missing key points to your argument, as were the videos you posted of the assassination recreation.

Nobody is shooting a moving target. Nobody is using the same optics, and the same rifle as Oswald. They're all using some other brand of rifle, with different ammunition.

I've watched the history channel special a few times in the past, and know for fact some of the shots were staged. I know people who worked on that special, and there are plenty of people who will testify that not everything you see happened as shown.

You are watching INFOTAINMENT.

Better to be hated for what you are, than loved for what you are not.

It's been a while since I thought about this incident. I'm trying to recall any pictures of the window allegedly used by Oswald. I believe the window is recessed and that there are pipes and other immovable obstacles inside. If Oswald was right-handed then he would have to lean out the window over the ledge in an awkward position shooting to the right and down at a steep angle. I am not aware of any recreations of the actual location of where the shots originated. Great shooting anyway.

There has been some debate over the number of shots heard. Dealey Plaza had a number of tall buildings which could create echoes and reverbs, making three shots sound like more. Also, and this is significant, the motorcade had several motorcycle police as escort and motorcycles at that time were noisy and would frequently backfire. Jackie Kennedy herself testified to this at the Warran Commission, that she had heard plenty of motorcycle backfiring on previous occasions and could not distinguish it from the sound of the rifle.
