Today it's the "terrorists". Tomorrow it's your neighbor. Then it's you. Remember when the story was "SWAT teams are needed to give the police the tools they need to deal with heavily armed gangs and criminal enterprises". Next thing you know, they're bashing down doors and shooting down unarmed granny ladies because some scumbag gave a tip that drugs were being sold at that address. Remember when the story was "RICO laws are needed to go after sophisticated criminal enterprises like the Mafia". Next thing you know, Joe and Jill Sixpack are being raked over the coals with RICO laws because some scumbag said they were selling weed out of their house. Remember when the story was "Asset forfeiture laws are a necessary tool to give law enforcement a way to fight back against sophisticated criminal enterprises making fortunes dealing drugs". Next thing you know, average people are having their money and property stolen by law enforcement officials under the flimsiest of pretexts, and cases like "State of Alabama vs. $3755.00 in cash" are being filed. And now it's "We need waterboarding to protect us from terrorists". I hope you can see where this is all going. Enjoy being tortured by the state. Meanwhile people like me will speak out against it, and support the right of people to be tried by a jury of their peers, to enjoy the protections of habeas corpus, and the fundamental human right of all people to not be tortured by the state.

My 6 year old asked me today what the date was. Recalling yesterday was 9/11, I told him today was the 12th. I then asked him if he knew what yesterday was. As he tried to figure out what I was getting at, he said, “…. a … holiday?” I said, no, not exactly. Then, he remembered: “Oh! When the tourists knocked down the Twin Towers!”
