An Ohio mother will give up her baby boy to his biological parents after finding out she was implanted with their embryo instead of her's and her husband's. Carolyn Savage and husband Sean of Ohio learned of the mix up 14 weeks into the pregnancy and agreed to turn over the boy after delivery, expected in two week's time. The couple has two boys and an 18-month-old daughter. This will be Carolyn's last pregnancy but the couple has already found a "gestational carrier" for remaining embryos and signed a contract with a woman to be the carrier of their next child.
Tatarewicz: Would have been interesting and probably a first had the "biological" mother agreed to carry the Savages' next child thus creating a family relationship. It also might have been a good idea to arrange for the delivering mother to look after the child for a year or so, what with the importance of breastfeeding in the health of an individual.
Stories about this mix up don't give the site of the IVF clinic but with most of the reports emanating from British papers it looks like it was done in the UK.
