If I didnt know better, I would say you are another one of those persons that does not like government, regardless of the jackass in the Oval office???
Actually randge's comment is spot on. Bush gutted what was left of the Constitution before our eyes, and Obama is now doing a ritual dance in its blood before declaring a "New Way" that doesn't involve pesky restraints on government. The last President and the current one are arguably the most destructive two men to hold the office in history. There's no shame in disliking them both.
Agreed. There was a tad of sarcasm in my post. I well know how randge feels about "government".
Actually, I grew up feeling very proud to be a member of this big club. I admired the Founders and what they stood for, and our teachers taught us to revere our form of government and the Constitution. I supported our erstwhile crusade against communism. It was only much later that I learned the cynicism and greed that governed the prosecution of that fight in Vietnam and many other places. Learning about history as an adult has been one rude shock after another. Though I still "stand beside her," and hope that we will find someone to "guide her."
There was much they did NOT teach you and everyone else. My education came by my own work and interest, with the help of much older people that were self thinking persons.
Yes. But they were sincere people, and they loved their country. By the by, my elementary school teachers were all hard-scrabble sons and daughters of farmers. They were good folks, and I'm thankful to them to this day. I forgive them for not teaching us what they did not know.
Few people know of that term, fewer understand it. There is a town on LI called Hardscrabble and was one in Pa, no longer in existence.
There's a Hardscrabble Mine in Sierra Co Ca. It lived up to it's name.
