Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio says he will continue his controversial 60;crime suppression operations61; despite a Department of Homeland Security decision to strip him of authority to arrest suspected illegal immigrants based solely on their immigration status, the East Valley Tribune reports.

“It’s all politics,” says Arpaio, sheriff of Maricopa County.
Arpaio will still have the power to check the immigration status of people booked by his officers, but not the authority to conduct street patrols looking for illegal immigrants.

His “crime suppression operations” are saturation patrols in designated areas where deputies would find illegal immigrants by stopping them for traffic infractions and minor violations, the paper says.
The department of Justice and other federal agencies are investigating the sheriff’s office on accusations of racial profiling during the operations, the paper says.

Arpaio said he will be able to still conduct the crime sweeps under state human smuggling laws and an obscure federal law that allows local police to arrest illegal immigrants.

A spokesman for the Phoenix office of ICE declined to comment until after pending agreements with the country are signed.

Give it up and let the people of AZ wallow in illegals. They and their families deserve the extra taxes, crime & filth they bring with them. (3 images)

I do wonder though about DHS stating that you can't arrest somebody doing something illegal specifically because their status declares that they are doing something illegal.

sheriffs are our last line of defense. they must be eradicated. especially independent types like Arpaio.

The leftist goof Napolitano won't stop Arpaio, but I do hope the Obama supporters in AZ get put to the sword by the invaders. They deserve it.

Sheriffs come from ancient Anglo Saxon traditions regarding wrong doing. The word sheriff comes from "Shire Reeve". A Shire Reeve was the head hancho that the king spoke to, who then spoke to lesser reeves, who then spoke to hundredsmen, who then spoke to tithesmen at the local level (each tithe was a grouping of 10 free men, where being free was first identified as having the right to keep and bear arms). The job of the hundredsmen (the principle 'enforcer') was to report up the chain of command, ultimately to the Shire Reeve and then to the King, those crimes which broke the king's peace. Which is to say, disrupted trade, or cattle theft (from anybody). If you had a crime against an individual, say rape or murder, it was up to the victim to bring the wrongdoer to justice (what a novel concept!).

Shires were divisions of land. The Anglo Saxons generally allocated land into Hides, which was the measurement at the time for a specific obtainable size of land. Shires superseded that in the 11th century, and were divisions of a given size broken down into 100 allotments (hence the hundredsman).

Ergo, Shire Reeve (Sheriff) was the guy that ultimately reported to, and sent messages down from, the king in regards to crimes that affected the entire community.

But we are slowly finding out the real reasons for the formation of DHS. To take the police power from the local jurisdictions.

JT hasn't voted since his for Buchanan and the Reform Party. he got it way before i did. my last vote was for bush in 2000. a couple months into his presidency i became enlightened when i read Votescam: The Stealing of America.

i eradicated my vote card and had Ron Paul gotten the nomination would have had to re-register. i was extremely disenchanted with him when he refused to pursue the obvious vote fraud that cheated him out of votes in NH. exposure of our fraudulent elections, imo, is the most important issue he could have done for the good of the country.
