A caravan of a few vehicles, rather than a chartered bus, will take Brown County residents to a pro-Bush rally in Crawford on Saturday, Brown County Veterans Services Officer Billy Murphey said.

Murphey said Thursday that he had decided to cancel the bus because there weren't enough riders to help defray the $1,300 charter fee. Riders would have been asked to donate $25 each toward the cost.

Murphey, who is helping organize the trip, had made tentative plans to charter the 55-seat bus, but said Wednesday that only seven riders had signed up.

He said he anticipates about a dozen residents will make the trip Saturday in four or five vehicles. Travelers will meet the Brownwood Coliseum at 9 a.m. and leave from there, Murphey said.

My relatives live in rural Texas and I was back there a couple of months ago. I noticed a change of attitude then. The average person was just sick of Bush and the war. About one person in ten came off as an LP style bot, but the rest had pretty much wised up.

Talk radio on the local San Antonio Station KTHA pretty much dealt with the question of why were were there. Bush didn't come off looking good in these discussions. The big clear channel station, 1300, of course blasted out Rush, Hannity and their understudies, but this didn't seem to be having much of an effect anymore. Everyone seemed to realize that these guys were liars.

All the talk stations I can get are basically the same whether they are Clear Channel/Infinity or privately owned.

They all have the same thing. Bill Bennet,Mike Gallagher,Windbag,Hannity, and O'Reily. We used to get Chuck Harder on two stations but he became a victim of corporate packaged radio.

In the afternoon I can go through the dial and find Windbag on at least 10 stations. There are absolutely no alternatives at least that I can find. They're getting old and I rarely listen to the radio anymore except for a local station that is devoted entirely to news and local interests.

The state of radio is absolutely pathetic just as TV is.

Do what I do. Don't listen to any of them. Just walk around talking to yourself. You'll find it makes more sense. I don't listen to anyone but myself anyway. Just ask my wife.

Gee wizz, where are the armies of "patriotic Amurikans"? Based on their rhetoric you would expect the bus to be overflowing; indeed, they would need lotsa buses.

Are the Bush supporters too cheap? Maybe they got lost?

Or maybe they are just figments of a FReeper's imagination.

I spoke with John Stadtmiller earlier today as he was leaving Crawford. He said there were about 7,000 people there with the pro-war/pro-bush side outnumbering the antis. John reported that all was peaceful. He did some interviews and took some video and said the level of ignorance among the bushies he spoke to was just astounding. Most believe, still, that Saddam Hussein was responsible for 911. He's going to do a show on it on Monday. 4-6 CT. http://www.rbnlive.com

If you fall on the side that is pro-George and pro-war, you get your ass over to Iraq, and take the place of somebody who wants to come home.

Lets see what Sept 24th looks like in DC. I think Crawford, TX is their territory. DC will be another story (I hope)

Sam Adams is better.

plans to charter the 55-seat bus, but said Wednesday that only seven riders had signed up.

Maybe because people got confused and thought it would be signing up to fight in the war, instead of just support it.

I've already said too much.

They will believe what their pastor tells them to believe and nothing else. You people are unclean heathens to them, they will not listen to you.

Ignorance, and emotion, is the life blood of the state.

Last night I saw a story about them on CNN. One of the bushies yelled "I'll fight for my country whenever they ask me to".

Oh, so that's why they aren't enlisting. Nobody asked them to! Well, in one way it makes sense; they certainly don't strike me as independent thinkers!

I wish I had been there. I would have said "Consider yourself asked!"
