Student Refuses to Say Pledge

Friday, Oct 9, 2009 @08:24pm CDT

"When I heard from the principal, I was not happy," said Jay Phillips.

Jay and Laura Phillips were shocked to hear their 10-year-old talked back to a teacher at West Fork Middle school Thursday - but were less surprised when they found out why.

"Don't push him - four days of hassle, hassle, hassle and raise your voice," said Laura Phillips. "He's going to lose his temper."

Their son told them last weekend he had decided to no longer stand and recite the Pledge of Allegiance at school because he didn't believe there is liberty and justice for all, especially when it comes to gay rights.

"To say them (words) and not mean them would be a lie," Jay said.

This week their son says a substitute teacher prodded him every day to stand up and say the pledge after he had refused. He then says he got angry, and talked back. The Phillips said that they reprimanded him for that, but they don't want him to be pushed to do something he doesn't feel comfortable doing.

"We would like to have the school make sure the teachers know the kids do have the right to sit down and make their own choices, even if he is only 10 and in 5th grade," Laura said.

She chooses not to say the Pledge of Allegiance, but Jay does. They said that they respect each other's choices - and their son's - and they don't see it as an insult to the country.

"He is not anti-American," Laura said. "He is very proud to live here, but he knows even at 10 he can make changes."

The West Fork School District responded by saying that they don't require students to say the pledge.

There is nothing in the Constitution that requires us to take oaths.

Kids can be required to do all manner of stupid things by adults, but intoning this socialist pledge is not one of them.

It's ironic that the school has likely pushed the gay agenda that set this child on the path to resisting the hypocrisy that many never even notice.

The Pledge is a variation of what feudalists forced their serfs to do.

A "liege" was a feudal lord. (Or the vassal - serf relationship]

1. a feudal lord entitled to allegiance and service. 2. a feudal vassal or subject.

–adjective 3. owing primary allegiance and service to a feudal lord. 4. pertaining to the relation between a feudal vassal and lord. 5. loyal; faithful: the liege adherents of a cause.

This kid refusing to Pledge Allegiance to the Flag is smarter and more considerate than all of those that memorize and regurgitate by rote a pledge that represents serfdom and was how the serfs pledged their children's future loyalty to the nobles in feudal England. Nobles would have the serf parents educate the serf children to run up and kiss the nobles ring and thereby seal their own serfdom.

The U.S. Govt is a tyrannical butcher; U.S. taxpayers are accomplices to international murder and mayhem. If you satisfy your fears by bowing to this butcher, you forfeit your humanity and possibly your soul.

This kid is pro-gay or is a little homo himself.

especially when it comes to gay rights.

i have to admit when i read that, my heart sank. how is it that a 10 yr old knows that much about gay rights?

"This Act (the Federal Reserve Act, Dec. 23rd 1913) establishes the most gigantic trust on earth. When the President (Woodrow Wilson) signs the Bill, the invisible government of the Monetary Power will be legalised... The worst legislative crime of the ages is perpetrated by this banking and currency Bill."--Charles Lindbergh, Sr.

I'll give you three guesses and the first two don't count.

The school is probably tickled pink to see it has taken at this level.

MapQuest really needs to start their directions on #5. Pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

I think the pledge can be just fine with a little subversive instruction on the key qualifier "for which it stands".

Asshole substitute teacher (or am I being redundant?).

THe US Supreme Court settled this, and in the boy's favor, back in 1943, in the case of West Virginia Bd of Education v. Barnette, 319 US 624, 87 L.Ed. 1628, 63 S.Ct. 1178. This decision is mentioned in all the manuals on law & schools.
