No One Wanted to Claim Rocket Launcher Posted by Miss Cellania in Weapons & War on October 15, 2009 at 10:06 am Jarrette Schule found a rocket launcher in his backyard in rural Comal County, Texas on Tuesday. Against all common sense, he took it in his house, then began calling authorities to report it. He called the FBI, the sheriff’s department, and Homeland Security. “Everyone was handing it off to everybody else,” Schule said. He was surprised at the amount of work it took to get the military to pick up its lost missile launcher. Schule called the military police at Fort Sam. But their jurisdiction doesn’t extend off the post. Schule’s information was passed along to an Army criminal investigator, who visited Schule on Wednesday morning — about 19 hours after he started making phone calls. Three hours later, an Army ordinance disposal team retrieved the weapon. There is still no word on how it got to Schule’s yard. Link -via Queuebot
Schule initially was nervous when he found the weapon. But as the hours passed, he did what most guys would do — marvel at the mind-blowing awesomeness of finding a missile launcher. He posted photos on Facebook and called his buddies, saying: “Guess what I found?”

Sure appears that "someone" was trying to set this guy up.
Let's see. Rocket Launcher mysteriously appears in his backyard. Good Citizen takes the rocket launcher, and calls the feds to come get it. Had he called his local police department, they should have been the first people to show up and claim it, filing reports, and then notifying the FBI. There's a lot of things missing from this story. Here's something interesting though about every piece of military hardware. They all have barcodes on them, and there's ALWAYS a chain of custody as to who has them in any arsenal. One scan of the barcode by the military and they'd be able to tell where this rocket launcher came from, as well as who handled it last and from what armory. If this guy was being set up, then why? Has he been spouting anti-government invective, or is he someone that needs to be gotten rid of? Does he have land that someone in the county wants? There's something not right about finding an armed rocket launcher in your back yard.

My man has a keen sense of the obvious.
I didn't know about barcodes, but I am told by folks who should know that just about all munitions have codes on them that tell exactly where they were made and what the chain of custody is. Guess they went to bar codes from alpha numeric.
