WASHINGTON -- The last presidential election took place barely 11 months ago, but a new poll shows former Arkansas governor and Southern Baptist pastor Mike Huckabee leading a field of Republican candidates for the 2012 GOP nomination.

The Rasmussen survey of 750 Republican voters conducted Oct. 15 shows Huckabee at 29 percent, Mitt Romney 24 percent, Sarah Palin 18 percent and Newt Gingrich 14 percent. Huckabee also beats Romney and Palin in head-to-head matchups, edging Romney 44-39 percent and Palin 55-35 percent.

Although 2012 is still three years away, campaigning and fundraising for the GOP nomination will begin much sooner. The first debates will take place in 2011, several months after next year's mid-term elections.

Huckabee won eight states during his bid for the 2008 Republican nomination and finished second in delegate count. He's currently the host of his own show on Fox News, "Huckabee," which consistently is the top show in its time slot against other cable news programming.

He was governor of Arkansas for 10 years. Prior to his political career he served as pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, Ark., and Beech Street Baptist Church in Texarkana, Ark. He also attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Subscribe to *Sarah Palin 2012*

It looks like None of the Above is leading the pack.

The ticket that would get my support is Ventura/Traficant - those guys would give America a real choice.

Traficant is a far leftist. He may be an honest man (I think it's a safe bet), but his political philosophy makes me gag. If I'm going to vote for somebody, I want somebody who will represent my desire that the country be governed in the manner it was founded to be governed in. I never get that vibe from the far left, ever.

Holy crap! Traficant may be a far lefty in your book but he is way farther right than those who claim to be conservative. Ya better google in Traficant's name and watch those 1 minute attacks he had done on the house floor. If you still think he is a leftie, call funk & Wagnals and tell them you want the definition of a lefty changed.

Traficant has fought big government every step of the way. Maybe it's just that you are a rich kid who can't stand the average guy win anything against big government, big banks, big business, and corrupt politicans. I guess you never heard Traficant call his fellow congress critters whores or watched him fight the IRS.

Go take a peek at the real Jim Traficant and then get back to us.

I live in Ohio, I know Traficant, and I know his positions. I don't mind his take on the Fed, or cutting support for Israel, but otherwise, he's a left winger and thanks, but no thanks.

Yeah, that must be it. Born with a silver spoon in my mouth, delivered to me by my prohibition defying shine running grandpap from the poorer part of West Virginia, just before he took a union job as a mechanic. *eyeroll*

Well I live in PA 17 miles from Ohio and lesws than an hour from Youngstown. I've followed Jim Traficant from the time he was the Quarterback at Pitt. I've met Jim and spent quite a bit of time with him discussing various problems we face.

I know he is a champion of the little guy and wouldn't evict people who's homes were being foreclosed. He went to jail as Mahoning county sherrif defying a judge.

It just dawned on me. Your grandpa comes from west virginia, the state whose incestuous voters have repeated voted Robert" PORK" Byrd to office for over 50 years and also given us Jay Rockefeller who is a CFR/Neo-con suckass liberal. Now those two fit your definition.

I'm more into champions of liberty, thanks.

They moved to Ohio many, many, many decades ago and their kids (all in their late 50's and early 60's) were all born in Ohio. But thanks for the ad hominem.

Now those two fit your definition.

You don't deal well with people who disagree with you on anything do you? Calling names and slurring families may work for you, but they don't a lot to bolster your position. If anything, it makes me suspect that I'm on the right track in my own thinking. If Trafficant supporters take to screaming out insults as a first line of defense, then he can't be that solid.

Others can and do defend him without the vile sneering and insults. Maybe you can learn from them.

I see I got a little close. I also see you brought the west by god virginia political savvy to Ohio when your family moved there. You transplanted west virginia, now ohio voter have given us Marc Dann, Ken Blackwell of black box voter fraud fame that gave us 4 more years of dubya, and Mike DeWine who's only bill he ever introduced was to make the butterfly the state bird of ohio or something like that. He was a retard from day one. Some judge of politicans and liberty you are sporting there pal.

No, I was just pointing out your ad hominem. Honestly dude, you're just some guy on the internet and you don't really mean anything to me (nor anybody, I suspect, as none of us do). Hopefully you'll learn to not take things so seriously all the time.

I also see you brought the west by god virginia political savvy to Ohio when your family moved there.

What, the idea of rule of law, not men, and a strong Constitution that limits government to a very small and delimited set of powers? Possibly, my grandparents were big into that kind of thing. You might be onto something.

You transplanted west virginia, now ohio voter have given us Marc Dann, Ken Blackwell of black box voter

Well, technically speaking, I'm not a transplanted West Virginian (that's capitalized, it's a state and thus a proper name). I was born in North Carolina, thanks, to parents both born in Ohio. But I'm glad you care about my roots. ;)

Can't say I voted for Marc Dann or Ken Blackwell. Sorry. Not Dubya either, neither time. Weird isn't it?

Mike DeWine who's only bill he ever introduced was to make the butterfly the state bird of ohio or something like that. He was a retard from day one.<<

Can't say I ever voted for Mike DeWine either and I fully agree that he is, and has always been, as you say, a retard. Huh, go figure.

Some judge of politicans and liberty you are sporting there pal.

So if I'm reading you right, a person is accountable for and holds the exact beliefs of others, according to how others in his state vote. That makes absolutely no sense, on any level. You see, it's who I vote for, not against, that defines my politics. That's how it works. Individuals get to pick their own thoughts, and are not bound to the thoughts of their neighbors. Next time, try to keep this in mind, so you don't make the same mistake twice. Thanks! :)

I gotta quit taking things so seriously alright. We got scads of time to turn this country around. It doesn't matter if obama or any of the pols become president. What is important is that I quit taking things seriously. Thats paramount! If my e-mail worked, I'd write obama and thank him for being president because he is just as good as the others. I would point out that he coulda done a tad bit better than picking Joe.

I owe you an ap[ology. Those incestuous west virginia voters must be in the other guys family. I just hate it to pieces when I accidentally strike someones nerves.

Gonna go run along and tell myself how great everything is in America. I'm also glad you pointed out to me and everyone on here that there are hundreds of candidates far far better than Traficant. Hell my neighbor is a great guy. Maybe he'll run. I'm elated that you pointed it out to me.

You're talking to a random guy you don't know on the internet. It's not like anything you say to me will in fact change the world. If you think that it might, then I really recommend that you take some time away from the keyboard and take a walk outside and breath some fresh air man.

I owe you an ap[ology. Those incestuous west virginia voters must be in the other guys family. I just hate it to pieces when I accidentally strike someones nerves.

You've got a very strong collectivist bent, I can't help but notice. Somehow you think that calling members of any state names, as a two year old would, affects somebody who has some kind of loose association with that state. It makes no sense really. I simply can't grok where you think that there's any offense taken, as there's nothing to be offended by really. You're railing at people who are not me or my family, why should I care?

Your neighbor, whom I don't know, may well be a better candidate. We need more common folks in office and less career politicians, in my opinion. That way, the common man gets some representation and we can restore liberty.

I'm just a guy you don't know on the internet. Learn to relax.
