Title: White House hypocrisy on the imprisonment of an American in Iran

On Tuesday an Iranian court convicted Kian Tajbakhsh, an Iranian America scholar, of acting against the national security of Iran during the protests of the Iranian presidential election in August. He was given a 12 year prison sentence.

The White House was quick to condemn the conviction:

Further, we are deeply concerned that Mr. Tajbakhsh may have been forced to stand trial in the revolutionary court without the benefit of his own legal counsel. The right to due process is universal and must be respected. The right to a fair and public hearing is embodied in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the right to legal representation is also guaranteed in Iran’s own constitution, as well as in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which Iran is a party. We urge Iran to release Mr. Tajbakhsh as soon as possible."

One has to wonder about the collective sanity of our government when a spokesman for the Executive Branch says things like the above.

This is nothing new by the way. Apparently Washington thinks that if they just pretend they haven't tortured hundreds of people (over 100 to death), that they haven't kidnapped people all over the globe and held them for years with no charges- then no one will notice.

Well, Americans won't notice, that is for sure. That is why a spokesman for a government that has enshrined torture, kidnapping, and assassination as all but legal instruments of state feels totally comfortable scolding Iran over failing to give an American proper legal counsel. Our "free media" certainly wouldn't dare raise the obvious issue of credibility when such statements on human rights are made by our government.

Iran failed to give an American due process and proper legal counsel? This coming from a country that openly reserves the right to kidnap and hold for years with no charges of any kind anyone they deem a "terrorist"? This coming from a country that literally has tortured dozens of men to death? This coming from a country that routinely assassinates people in sovereign foreign countries with drones they openly describe as just "suspects"- and anyone else unlucky enough to be around the "target"?

That statement is so insane on so many levels it should be examined and studied by mental health experts as the textbook example of sociopath behavior.

I almost don't even want to mention that the US has held Iranian nationals for years with no charges and no representation. It has held a journalist in Iraq for over two years now with no charges of any kind.

Iran currently accuses the US, not without cause or plausibility, of kidnapping at least two of it's citizens- one of whom I have written about before. The US does reserve the right to "rendition" anyone it deems a "suspect" so is Iran's accusation without merit? Not worthy of being covered by our media?

If we actually had a free press in this country those kinds of things would be thrown in the face of a government spokesman who made such an outrageously hypocritical statement. But we can't ever expect the Barbie and Ken dolls in our media to act like real reporters.

Say what you will about Iran's justice- but at least the man had charges and a trial. At least he knows how long he is to be imprisoned for. The same can't be said for hundreds of men from dozens of countries currently being held in the American secret gulag- some of whom won't ever be going home because they were tortured to death.

Just more garden variety obscenity and insanity oozing forth from our deluded and malicious Beltway establishment. And though we won't be told how insane Washington looks when they make such statements by our media- the rest of the world hears such statements and can't believe their ears.

How insulting - to Barbie and Ken.
