The actions of the general demanding thousands of new US troops for the war in Afghanistan have been called into question by a new book on an alleged Pentagon cover-up of the death of Pat Tillman, an American footballer turned soldier.

The challenge to Gen Stanley McChrystal's reputation comes as President Barack Obama prepares to make his biggest decision since winning the presidency a year ago on Tuesday. The president has spent more than two months agonising over how many reinforcements to send to the war.

Throughout that process the highly decorated Gen McChrystal has been praised as the ideal man to lead allied forces in Afghanistan, a job he took over in the summer.

But in Where Men Win Glory: The Odyssey of Pat Tillman, the author Jon Krakauer has presented allegations about the general's role in recommending Cpl Tillman for a posthumous silver star medal, which would not normally be awarded for a "friendly fire" incident.

He claimed that Gen McChrystal approved paperwork awarding the medal Cpl Tillman despite the fact that the former Arizona Cardinals star had died from friendly fire and not enemy fire, as the Pentagon claimed for a month after his death.

"After Tillman died, the most important thing to know is that within 24 hours everybody on the ground, everyone intimately involved, knew it was friendly fire," Krakauer told NBC. "There's never any doubt it was friendly fire. Also, immediately they started this paperwork to give Tillman a silver star."

Testifying before a Senate hearing earlier this year, Gen McChrystal admitted "I would do this differently if I had the chance again", and said he had not read the paperwork on the silver star citation thoroughly.

Krakauer, who spent five months in Afghanistan researching the book, described that claim as "preposterous" and "unbelievable".

The allegation of a cover-up was made after a concerted campaign by Cpl Tillman's family. His father, Pat Tillman Snr, earlier this year said of Gen McChrystal, "I do believe that guy participated in a falsified homicide investigation."

Gen McChrystal was one of eight officers recommended for discipline by a subsequent Pentagon investigation but the army declined to take action against him.

Gen Stanley McChrystal, sadly, faces naught.

The General will continue to collect his salary and all the perks and plaudits that go with his office as well as his pension when he finally shuffles off. He will be asked to answer for nothing.

Young men are fools to follow men such as these to wars that never end in far off places.

Now now, lets not be hasty here.

McChrystal serves only by the will of the current CIC, in this case, both Bush and Obama.

Re the Tillman sad affair, the original event and all after was cleared by Mcchrystals boss...and two top generals...four star type. The punishment spared those gentlemen, McChrystal took the fall, something he seems not to want to do again.

The only question is, does Obama have the backbone to make McChrystal walk the plank??? He seems to hesitate. Being a career Private, I love seeing Generals walk the plank.

Personally I think there is a strong argument to be made that Tillman was "whacked" intentionally to keep him from coming home a combat vet against the war in Pipelinestan. His brother asserts that he was opposed before he went, out of a sense of duty, and became more opposed while their.

Had he done that it would have been a major major PR problem for the Bush Junta and the MIC. So, I think there was plenty of motive and definitely opportunity - he's dead ain't he?

Which general it is that takes the heat is pretty much academic to me. It's like asking which of the corrupt French parliamentarians should take the blame for the fall of the Third Republic or which of the German general staff should or shouldn't have been hung for war crimes.

The entire bunch of senior officials in all three branches of government as well as those who staff the flag ranks in our military are all cut out of the same cloth as far as I'm concerned. I have no sympathy for any of them. All of them are conspiring in one way or another to destroy this nation.

But yes, Obama is technically and literally responsible for war and peace decisions as they are delegated by our irresponsible and derelict Congress. He could fire the General at a moment's notice. But absent an outright public slap in the face, without open insubordination, he won't. He can't. Hell he can't even name his own Sec'y of Defence! Everybody smells this weakness. That's why his numbers drop day by day. 45% and falling. It's gonna be a lo-o-o-ong four years - if he survives it.

I am inclined to think he won't. I am guessing he could be gone by as soon as the end of next year.

The stonewalling on the Birth Issue/Citizenship Status is becoming obvious to the point the O'bots simply use a few insults and pretend that settles it. Even most of them know he's a fraud but support him for whatever irrational and unethical reasons. However, it is coming from too many fronts and I don't think that they can stonewall it forever, because as soon as one case is dismissed on technical grounds another pops up. His days in the oval office are numbered less than the remaining days of his term (fingers crossed). Oh, and the possibility that his masters will whack him to create a political uproar decline along with his rapidly dwindling support. If he is forced out on the Birth/Citizenship issue it will precipitate a Constitutional Crisis because Biden has to know he is a fraud so that makes him a target for impeachment and removal.

In the military that is very possible.

If we look at the prison affair, Abu Gharib or whatever, it was the enlisted men that blew the whistle, and they paid the price by going to prison.

Again a few days ago it was the enlisted men blowing the whistle in Iraq, you better believe the hunt is on for those men.

Those that seek power in the military are no different than those that seek it in government. They will lie, cheat and steal to get it.

Cant.

I had friends that stayed in with the hopes of becoming Generals.

It amazes me that people give a $h!t who is in the White House.

Whoever it is at whatever point in our history, he is a controlled puppet.

The so-called "republic" is long gone. You are now watching the decline and fall of an empire — from within, if you are a U.S. citizen.

It may happen rapidly. It may happen relatively slowly. But the U.S. is now a "failed state" — one of the largest in history. A precedent for what we are going through was the recent collapse of the USSR.

The personalities who come and go out of the White House do not impact this historical process at all.

However what is coming may just be salubrious and much more consonant with what was intended when the Republic was founded.

The difference with the Soviet Union was that a great many contiguous red-era acquisitions were forfeited - and what remained was Russia. And Russia is in many ways stronger for it.

What we will shed - have to shed for painful economic reasons - is an empire that does not even belong to us, has never has belonged to us. A lot of useless and onerous globalist responsibilities will be gone.

I think the Republic will survive for the people as Russia has survived for its people.

I have a very practical reason. At the exact moment in time wherein he is declared ineligible to hold the office of President every law, edict, bill, or whatever he has signed into law or affect becomes instantaneously null, void, and without any force of law. Period.

While that may be true, what is left may be onerous globalist unbearable opression. One thing is for sure, life will never be the same in either case.
