GOUVERNEUR, NY - Congressman-elect Bill Owens was sworn in at noon today.

Owens indicated in a press release released shortly afterwards that he was now in favor of the the "Affordable Healthcare for America Act" bill in direct contrast to his earlier position during the election campaign.

According to Politico.com, Mr. Owens assured voters that he felt the public option had no place in the health care reform bill. Contrary to that position, Mr. Owens now indicates that he intends to vote in favor of the bill even though it now contains a public option.

UPDATED: A spokesman for Congressman Owens indicated correctly that Mr. Owens had recanted his solid position against public option later in the campaign, clarifying that he did not wish public option to be a 'litmus test' for the Health Reform bill and that on Oct. 30th, several days prior to the election, in a debate had stated that he generally supported the public option as it was now written (at that time.)

Mr. Owens also indicated during his campaign that he was firmly opposed to cutting Medicare benefits, taxing health care benefits, and increased taxes on the middle class in any way as you can see clearly in the screenshot below, taken directly from Mr. Owens' campaign website.

I wonder how many slugs on here still think we can change things at the ballot box? Let's hear it from you demonwits and pubbiecrats! New pols are indoctrinated on how to vote by those in control before they are sworn in and by the campaign dollars they receive during the phoney elections. This is pointed out clearly right at the beginning of this article.

Tommy has stated the only solution, and I mean the only solution.

I'm a realist. I look at what's available to me and other voters, to effect changes in business as usual in DC. Admittedly, my approach is not flashy or testosterone driven, but if every voter in America or even if just a significant number of voters put into practice my theory, we would reap some meaningful rewards.

That's why I have always encouraged voting against incumbency as the single most effective way available to us little people to effect term limits to break the hold of special interests.

Failing a total musical chair change of faces in DC, at the very least we might achieve gridlock which can also be helpful to The People.

If you and Tommy want to hold your breaths for your Tea Party Redux solution to come about, you are free to exercise that option - but be sure to put your affairs in order before you follow through on the route.

I'm a realist too! I know if the dog hadn't stopped to shit, he'd caught the rabbit. This is the same old mantra being spewed time and time again. You know full well your plan is next to impossible because we have too damned many yellow bellies who have been dumbed down and still believe in the two wings of our one party and voting will change things. To which I say bullshit. We had Americans who went through this, hoping King George would give the 13 colonies their independence. Well Americans used to be taught in our schools how our independence came about and what would be required to keep it. It came from the blood shed by those who loved freedom and they warned us that that was the only way we could keep it.

We have been voting for about 233 years and now we have voted in our own demise. Those in control keep getting re-elected time and again because the citizens in this country have been dumbed down and keep voting in the same old politicians that are hell bent on destroying this country. Voting will not fix the problem because the voting is fixed.

I really feel sorry for those of us that can't come to the realization that we will never see any significant change and we will never see our freedoms and honest government return via the ballot box. If you really think enough voters will come to see the light, in your lifetime, sadly I say you are delusional. If they had any fear of being voted out, they wouldn't be so brazen to vote for things opposed by the majority of the populace. Fruthermore, you and I can't oppose them in a peacefull demonstration. They use the police and high-tech weapons to stop even peaceful demonstrations.

Once they have total control over us, please post a reply to me and tell me who I can vote for so that our liberties will magically be restored. As they say, money talks and bullshit walks and you and I don't have the kind of money to buy the favor of our politicians like all that corporate money does.

Yep, voting will fix everything and make everything hunky-dory once again.

Local elections can matter. Heinlein laid it all out. It means getting your hands dirty though.
