They said he tried to get out of the military ... did they keep this guy because they paid for his schooling ??? He's a commissioned officer, couldn't he resign his commission ?

His entire medical schooling was paid for by the military or just the Psych part? I have known many Psychiatrists who had changed from a GP or an internal medicine specialty to psych because they said they needed a change of pace or whatever. It 's really not that big of a deal.
That's easily $300,000+ of medical training debt that Dr. Hasan avoided accumulating if he had tried to do it on his own.
But as it turns out, we've since learned that Dr. Hasan was so desperate to leave the Army that he had offered to reimburse the military for his medical training and [a panel?] of incompetent diphead gubment paper shuffling desk jockey bureaucrats @ the DOD turned him down. Nice.

I hate to spoil your jubilation over uncovering a national state secret that you think no one else knows about, but the fact that gubment bureaucracy and its services are paid for by taxpayers like me is a universally understood concept at 4um.
