Title: Confessions of an ObamaCare Backer: A liberal explains the political calculus [ must read!]

The typical argument for ObamaCare is that it will offer better medical care for everyone and cost less to do it, but occasionally a supporter lets the mask slip and reveals the real political motivation. So let's give credit to John Cassidy, part of the left-wing stable at the New Yorker, who wrote last week on its Web site that "it's important to be clear about what the reform amounts to."

Mr. Cassidy is more honest than the politicians whose dishonesty he supports. "The U.S. government is making a costly and open-ended commitment," he writes. "Let's not pretend that it isn't a big deal, or that it will be self-financing, or that it will work out exactly as planned. It won't. What is really unfolding, I suspect, is the scenario that many conservatives feared. The Obama Administration . . . is creating a new entitlement program, which, once established, will be virtually impossible to rescind."

Why are they doing it? Because, according to Mr. Cassidy, ObamaCare serves the twin goals of "making the United States a more equitable country" and furthering the Democrats' "political calculus." In other words, the purpose is to further redistribute income by putting health care further under government control, and in the process making the middle class more dependent on government. As the party of government, Democrats will benefit over the long run.

This explains why Nancy Pelosi is willing to risk the seats of so many Blue Dog Democrats by forcing such an unpopular bill through Congress on a narrow, partisan vote: You have to break a few eggs to make a permanent welfare state. As Mr. Cassidy concludes, "Putting on my amateur historian's cap, I might even claim that some subterfuge is historically necessary to get great reforms enacted."

No wonder many Americans are upset. They know they are being lied to about ObamaCare, and they know they are going to be stuck with the bill.

This article will confirm your worst fears about Obamacare. It's like listening to a tape of Stalin, Lenin, Marx talking. This evil legislation needs to go the way of the dodo bird.

Cassidy is dead on. In an odd connection, when I look at the JFK assassination, the agenda that benefited most from his death was the civil rights movement & the illegal immigration movement both of which have become a permanent D voting block. This slop being fed to Americans will have short term pain (LBJ quit & Nixon was selected) for long term gain; look at the America that was the mid 60s and compare it to today. This is the Fabian socialist model of government in our faces.

What I find hilarious, in a sick way, is that JFK's assassination and the "Great Society" that followed it was the second worst thing to every happen to blacks in America. The "Great Society" destroyed black aspirations toward equality by making a large segment of the black population serfs to the Government Welfare Check. By penalizing black families, by withholding the money, it destroyed the black family and resulted in skyrocketing rates of poverty, illegitimacy, dependency, and hopelessness. The kindest thing anyone could do for them is to cut off the welfare checks.

Excellent point, should be re-posted regularly, but I would replace "hilarious" with tragic (for all of America).

BTW, just curious, what's the first worst thing?

One might think I would say slavery, but as foul as slavery was those who survived were able to pass on to their children a better life than had they remained in Africa.

No, the worst was the destruction of the Black Middle Class in the early part of the 20th Century. Thanks to the likes of Booker T. Washington and others Blacks, following the Civil War, began a rather rapid climb from peonage to prosperity. A culture encouraging education and entrepreneurship sprang up and with it prosperous black communities who traded with each other much as Italians did in the Northeast. Kansas City in particular was a hotbed of black upward mobility. In the early part of the twentieth century a rising black business class was alive and thriving in the Mid-West and elsewhere. While I have not studied it closely enough to name names I suspect they were brought down by the same forces that gave us the Feral Reserve and the Income Tax. Blacks were rapidly becoming an economic force which would have brought about Civil Rights through Economic Might long long before the 60's had they not been brought down. A little bit of history most people are unaware of because it is not taught in our skools.

The American Trotskyites - the Usual Suspects - the Utopians - were movers and shakers in the Civil Rights movement. Ditto for labor unions, radical feminism and gayism. Interesting, yes?

www.myjewishlearning.com/...ck-Jewish_Relations.shtml

"Civil Rights and Wrongs: A brief look at Black-Jewish relations in America, the 1960's to the 1980's" By Edward S. Shapiro

Some cut and paste:

...Jews [were] an important presence in the civil rights movement. About half of the white civil rights attorneys in the South in the 1960s were Jews. More than half of the white freedom riders in the 1960s were Jews, and nearly two thirds of the white volunteers involved in Freedom Summer in Mississippi in 1964 were Jews. Two of them --Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner--were murdered. Jews also provided much of the funds for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the Congress of Racial Equality, and other civil rights organizations...

Making sure they didn't do too well? Or maybe to seed communism into the movement?

a. ensuring failure? - it can't hurt...after all, only one group can be truly special

b. seeding communism? - The Prize, the End Goal, it's for their Greater Good, no?
