Hoffman 'unconcedes' in N.Y.-23 House race

Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman has "unconceded" in New York's special House election after reports that the vote margin between him and Rep. Bill Owens (D) has narrowed.

Hoffman conceded the race on Election Night after learning he trailed Owens by 5,335 votes. But the Syracuse Post-Standard reported last week that the margin had shrunk to 3,026 votes after recanvassing.

Hoffman appeared on conservative commenatator Glenn Beck's radio show this afternoon. Beck asked the him if he would "unconcede."

"Yes, if I knew this information at the election night, I would not have conceded," Hoffman said. Beck asked him again if he was "uncondeding" and Hoffman replied "If that’s possible, yes."

Officials in the upstate New York district are still counting over 10,000 absentee ballots, which also had Republican nominee Dede Scozzafava's name on them. Scozzafava dropped out of the race three days before election day citing poor fundraising and polling returns. She then backed Owens.

Owens was sworn into Congress on Nov. 6, just before Democrats voted on the healthcare reform bill on Saturday. Should Hoffman come away with more votes, a highly unlikely possibility, Owens would have to be removed from office, according to the House Clerk.

Hoffman would have to take over 65 percent of the absentee ballots in order to eclipse Owens. In the interview, Hoffman admitted his victory would be a "long shot."

"Yes, if I knew this information at the election night, I would not have conceded,"

Amazing this day and age and totals cannot be done accurately.

"Yes, if I knew this information at the election night, I would not have conceded," Hoffman said.

That's what I would've said too.

I would have said "I'll wait until all the absentee ballots have been counted".

Well it takes awhile to make the count come out right.

Uhhhh, little caustic sarcasm there, true but caustic.

A few things...a concession means nothing legally even though in Ohio 2004 they used Kerry's concession to stop counting the votes despite the fact that an official contestation was filed by a couple of candidates meaning that a recount was legally required to be held.

Secondly, the GOP runs everything up there and the canard that they made mistakes is absolute horseshit. They were trying to do this under the radar until they were outed by their own overzealous mouthbreathers in the media.

Thirdly, should Hoffman somehow get weasled into the lead up there, the case will be in the courts until next year's mid-terms.

Upstate has turned into a strange brew of politics. It's become very green on both sides...pro2A on both sides...leaning towards choice on both sides...that is what the interventionists don't understand. Dede was mainstream for the region as is Owens. Obama getting 52% up there should have been their first clue.

Well first they have to "find" all the votes.

LOL that was about my take on it. See my post above this one.

which he won't do, so he'll have to re-concede. He's not that bright, is he?

That's why he's the perfect birther candidate.

birther

I've noticed that anybody who doesn't subscribe to hard statist ethics (the kind Obama and Pelosi hold, for example) are labeled "birthers" or "stoopid!" by you folks.

You are aware, I hope, that your political opinions are not handed down from up on high, and are therefore flawed and open to critique? Further, you are hopefully aware others that holding ideas other than what you hold, does not make others somehow deficient, either intellectually or spiritually?

You guys are going to have to come up with better arguments to defend your rapidly fading ideology. Calling people names and sneering at them is no longer effective.

And no, I'm not a "birther".

The actual topic of the article is about a guy rescinding his concession. He's not just one guy, he has a legal team behind him, of highly educated men and women. If they conclude that there is a chance here, then this is the action that would be advised. Sneering "they're stooopid!" or "they're perfect birfers!" doesn't really, well, place you in a good light.

MapQuest really needs to start their directions on #5. Pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

Well, I think conceding a close election when there were still 11,000 absentee votes to be counted was stupid.

Sorry, but that's the way I see it.
