In the year 2000 a US newspaper acknowledged that it profited in the 1700s and 1800s by publishing scores of ads for the sale of slaves and the recapture of runaway slaves. Such advertisements were commonplace in Northern newspapers until the Civil War was under way, but the newspaper said it felt compelled to apologize for its practice. African Americans now make a very significant contribution to US life and the current President himself is an African American. These days it is a rare occurrence to see any published view claiming that an African is inferior in any way to a white person.
But we can imagine the views of the people benefiting from slavery at the time. They would definitely have constructed some convincing arguments about the correctness of their view, and the rightness of the legislation and penalties that enforced it.
What this demonstrates is that there is a thing which we can call for convenience sake, world consciousness, which evolves over time and changes significantly.
This got me to thinking, What might be some of the apologies that will be made in 100 or 200 years' time? Heres one suggestion:
"CORPORATIONS, GOVERNMENT, APOLOGISE FOR JOB SLAVERY
Corporations and government feel compelled to apologise for the actions of their forebears in the 2000s for withholding the funding under their control to exploit existing technologies which would have freed everyone who wanted from the necessity to undertake paid employment.
Millions upon millions of individuals were forced to undertake work they had little interest in for around 2/3rds of their waking life. Even with this level of personal sacrifice, their earnings were minimal and insufficient for their true needs. Many were unable to provide for their old age.
The economic cost in terms of lost inventions and better ways of doing things is estimated at trillions of dollars because people had no time to identify and pursue their passion, and education systems of the time were designed to produce compliant individuals, failing to emphasise the power of the individual to be creative and have the life they truly want."
Every thought a person thinks contributes to world consciousness. The sum of the thoughts on a subject become the governing attitude of the day. Each individual can take control of their own thoughts and words through direction and practice and thus contribute positively to world consciousness. Once people are no longer ruled by fear their true throughts and desires can surface. True thoughts and desires are never about competing with or controlling others because they are creative in nature.
