Those using check cashers and other services say they are faster, cheaper and more convenient than banks — even though they pay a fee to cash a check they could deposit in a bank account for free.
The FDIC will use the data in its effort to persuade more banks to offer "starter accounts," low-cost, no-minimum checking accounts without automatic overdraft programs that can result in customers getting hit with fees if they go in the red.

My daughter is not a minority. She had a checking account with BANKOFAMERICA. She lives where jobs are few and far between. She wears several hats to try to make ends meet. She does not bounce checks. This past year, BANKOFAMERICA depleted her account with several overdraft fees, that after reading the fine print, we still agree were fraudulent, and they refused to refund her money that she probably worked a month to put in there. She was devastated. I don't blame the minorities for not shunning banks. I do too, and BANKOFAMERICA, YOU ARE A DEN OF VIPERS AND THIEVES.
