I suppose this won't go down well with some here, but I think it's best to come out and say it before the rumors & speculation take hold since after they do, it'll be impossible to erase any inaccuracies. (I've already experienced that).

TOS2 has been upgraded to the latest version of Pinguinite software, and yes, I did the work. I did it for 3 reasons:

1) It was a decent paying gig;

2) It's what I do for a living;

3) Free speech isn't such a bad idea after all. (Goldi's, whether or not she allows it for others who post there. Fact is, forums offer free speech only for the owners, no exceptions. Everyone else only posts at the owner's whims).

I was approached about doing the work and it's done. I am not providing the web hosting for the site.

So there you have it. Flames are now being accepted. Have a good day.

How's the free speech in Ecuador these days?

Sue and I are getting to the point a flight there is really close to being real. We are going to Puerto Vallarta this March, which is good, (actually planning to spend most time in a small fishing village 150 km S of PV.

It's great, but I am wanting to go to a really out of the way place, as compared to Mexico, and as I knew E 25 years ago, and liked it ALOT, I would like to have Sue see it as well. The trip down the Rio Napo in a tree canoue (sp) was pretty hard to beat. And the town of Coca where a pipe yard was protected by a giant anteater was pretty interesting..

And the lady along the river journey, who when I asked her if I could buy some bananas laughed and - really went in the back of the "store", and gave me a frigging stalk of a banana tree that weighed forty pounds with, I dunno, sixty bananas on it.

Very tasty bananas they were small the best, and I had fun throwing them to to other members of the expedition as they requested. This was in 1982, the costs in E were fantastically inexpensive. I believe they had just had a currency blowup. My cousin and I feted eight or so E's with all the beers burgers and fries all they could consume in a pub in Riobamba for several hours and were presented with the bill by the manager who seemed to be quite ashamed and doubtful as to wheather anyone could afford the tab. IIRC it was about $13. I left a good tip.

How's the free speech in Ecuador these days?

Not too good, actually. Seems presidential power has gotten to Correa's head. But I'm not sure he's going to last his full first term.

I really like it here where I'm living now. I'm in a valley surrounded by mountains I never get tired of looking at. Altitude is about 7K which is about perfect here. The air is cool and clean, and it's spring time year round, except for "summer" from June-Sept when it's a bit dryer.

And the lady along the river journey, who when I asked her if I could buy some bananas laughed and - really went in the back of the "store", and gave me a frigging stalk of a banana tree that weighed forty pounds with, I dunno, sixty bananas on it.

Bananas are cheap here. Typically a 15 banana bunch is about 50 cents. And there's maduros and oritas both similar to bananas but different species I didn't know about before coming here. Fresh produce is available all the time as is cheap.

Very tasty bananas they were small the best, and I had fun throwing them to to other members of the expedition as they requested. This was in 1982, the costs in E were fantastically inexpensive.

I understand Peru and Bolivia are extremely cheap. Generally, here in Ecuador a dollar goes about 3x farther than it does in the states. Though meat and cars are well above that 1/3rd average. Cars are more expensive here. Housing is much cheaper.

I believe it. The currency would have been the Sucre then, but it's long since dollarized. I imagine an all-you-can-eat & drink for 8 people in a Riobamban pub would probably run about $50 - $80 now.

Quito has restaurants behind every streetlight. They are all over the place.

If/when you get her let me know.

Ultimately, if she wanted it badly enough she could just use the new software and start the forum again with a clean slate, so all I've really done is preserve its history.

While it's true she could have had another developer do the work I'm by far the most qualified for obvious reasons, and could do it in the shortest timeframe and the most reliably.
