Here's some Afghan War Propaganda you might have missed.....

Keep Pledges to Afghan Women and Girls: Build Lasting Peace

Eleanor Smeal, President of the Feminist Majority Foundation joined Women for Afghan Women in a press conference, on the same day President Obama is announcing the new US policies for Afghanistan and Pakistan, to keep in focus the plight of Afghan women and girls.

Statement of Eleanor Smeal:

We must not forget the horrific human rights abuses toward women and girls that have been and are being committed by the Taliban. In the past several years, hundreds of girls' schools have been destroyed. Teachers have been murdered - some right in front of their students. Girls are being attacked with acid thrown in their faces on their way to or from school. Atrocities are regularly committed by Taliban forces against women. And we cannot forget, when Afghanistan was ruled by the Taliban, women and girls were not allowed to be educated, employed, go outside their homes without the company of a close male relative, go to a male doctor (female doctors were forbidden to work), or go to a hospital. Girl babies were even forbidden treatment by male doctors. Women were beaten and killed for violations of intolerable restrictions.

President Obama announced in March a comprehensive new strategy for Afghanistan and Pakistan that will provide not only military assistance, but also "a greater civilian commitment to the Afghan people." He pledged we will "support the basic human rights of all Afghans - including women and girls."

We believe for any campaign to bring lasting peace to Afghanistan humanitarian and development programs of education, health care, and employment, especially for women and girls, who compose the majority of Afghans, are essential.

We believe that the new strategy about to be announced must increase the humanitarian and development programs for Afghanistan. To establish the conditions for a lasting peace, Afghanistan must be rebuilt and the basic building blocs of a civil society must be restored. President Bush promised a Marshall Plan for Afghanistan. In the long run, rebuilding Afghanistan is not only the moral solution, but also the more economical solution.

Providing jobs with adequate pay will drain the recruits for the Taliban. Moreover, adequately paying Afghan soldiers, police, civil servants, teachers, and health care workers is essential to stopping corruption and Taliban recruitment. Until recently, for example, the Taliban has been paying its militia recruits significantly more than the Afghan police or military. According to the Afghan National Army's website, trained soldiers receive $120 a month, compared to $200 to $500 a month for the Taliban (NYTimes 10/19/2009 and Afghan sources). Afghan experts estimate that a subsistence wage is $300 a month. No wonder Afghanistan is having difficulty with recruitment and attrition rates in the military and police.

Current Situation in Afghanistan:

Nearly eight years have passed since the Taliban's fall from power. Despite some progress in restoring the rights of Afghan women and girls, the situation in Afghanistan is dire. Due to the shift in U.S. attention to Iraq, the Taliban has made a comeback. Since 2005, deadly attacks on Afghan civilians, relief workers, teachers, and private contractors have been increasing. Women aid workers, elected officials, government employees, and journalists have been especially targeted by extremists with the Taliban often claiming responsibility. Suicide bombings are increasing. Most Afghan citizens live without basic necessities, including sufficient food, clean water, electricity, roads and healthcare.

Dr. Sima Samar, the chairperson of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) has told us that no place in Afghanistan is safe. We remain extremely concerned about the increase in severe violence against women in Afghanistan. For example, today some 35% of the 6 million school children (some 55% of all children) are girls, but in the southern province of Kandahar, where the Taliban insurgency is strongest, some experts estimate only 3% of the school children are girls. Nearly 1,000 girls' or co-ed schools have been attacked, arsoned, or destroyed by Taliban insurgents or militia. Teachers of girls as well as women political leaders have been assassinated; most recently a Kandahar woman provincial council member who was a fighter for women's rights was shot and killed.

Yet, despite the struggle and danger, millions of courageous Afghan women and girls go to school and work. Their drive for education is so great that several girls who had acid thrown in their faces for attending school in November 2008 were back in school just two months later in January 2009.

The FMF Campaign for Afghan Women and Girls, chaired by Mavis Leno, which began in 1997 to stop gender apartheid under the Taliban, galvanizes women's groups, campus and community activists, as well as ordinary citizens and conducts a public education campaign to ensure that Afghan women and girls will not be forgotten in the public debate concerning US policies toward Afghanistan. We have raised money for Afghan girls' and women's education, clinics, and employment training and have supported US programs for Afghan women and girls.

Not all feminists love escalation in Afghanistan

Dana Goldstein has a piece called "Why Feminists Love the Surge" in the Daily Beast. Her prime example is Eleanor Smeal, founder of the Feminist Majority Foundation, which has advocating for women and girls in Afghanistan since 1996. Smeal believes that long-term U.S. military occupation is the only way to save women and girls from the horrors of another Taliban-style regime.

Yet, the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA), the nation's oldest and most illustrious feminist group, opposes the U.S. occupation. RAWA argues that the real enemy of women's rights in Afghanistan is religious fundamentalism, not the Taliban, per se.

RAWA sees the U.S. occupation entrenching a regime stuffed to the gills with fundamentalists, reactionaries, misogynists, criminals, and warlords. As the group says on its website:

The US "War on terrorism" removed the Taliban regime in October 2001, but it has not removed religious fundamentalism which is the main cause of all our miseries. In fact, by reinstalling the warlords in power in Afghanistan, the US administration is replacing one fundamentalist regime with another. The US government and Mr. Karzai mostly rely on Northern Alliance criminal leaders who are as brutal and misogynist as the Taliban.

RAWA believes that freedom and democracy can’t be donated; it is the duty of the people of a country to fight and achieve these values. Under the US-supported government, the sworn enemies of human rights, democracy and secularism have gripped their claws over our country and attempt to restore their religious fascism on our people.

At feministe, Frau Sally Benz links to an interview with a RAWA spokeswoman known only by the pseudonym "Zoya." Zoya's on a speaking tour, but her face is blurred out for her own safety. Even in occupied Afghanistan, it's dangerous for women to speak out.

Westerners usually frame the debate over U.S./NATO policy in Afghanistan is usually framed as a choice between handing the country back to the Taliban or propping up the Karzai regime. The latter is assumed to be a dramatically better option for women's rights.

Karzai pays lip service to women's rights, but jettisons them whenever they need to make a compromise to stay in power. It should be noted that the Karzai government was responsible for the infamous Shia Family Law which legalized marital rape within Shia marriages.

Last month, Malalai Joya, a former member of the Afghan parliament, told Michelle Goldberg of the Daily Beast that the situation for Afghan women is every bit as bad under Karzai as it was under the Taliban. Joya is also concerned that civilian casualties are fueling popular support for the Taliban.

RAWA and its grassroots allies think that pro-democracy forces could transform the country on their own without U.S. military occupation. That's a point of view we seldom hear in U.S. media.

I don't know how realistic it is to think that pro-democracy forces could prevail against warlords and the Taliban, but the question hasn't gotten nearly as much attention as the issue of whether the U.S. could force reform at gunpoint. Maybe RAWA and its allies would have a better shot at power if the occupation wasn't shoveling billions of dollars to the most reactionary elements in society.

Let’s rise against the war crimes of US and its fundamentalist lackeys!

RAWA Statement on Massacre of over 150 civilians in Bala Baluk of Farah Province by the U.S.

As the US occupiers continue killing our innocent and sorrowed people without regret, this time they committed yet another horrible crime in Bala Baluk village of Farah Province. On 5th May 2009, the US airstrikes targeted people’s homes, killing more than 150, mostly women and children. This is another war crime but Pentagon shamelessly includes Taliban as the perpetrators too and announces the civilian deaths being only 12!

The so-called ‘new’ strategy of Obama’s administration and the surge of troops in Afghanistan have already dragged our ill-fated people in the danger zone and his 100-day old government proved itself as much more war-mongering than Bush and his only gifts to our people is hiking killings and ever-horrifying oppression. This administration is bombarding our country and tearing our women and children into pieces and from the other side, is lending a friendly hand towards the terrorist Gulbuddinis and Taliban -- the dirty, bloody enemies of our people-- and holding secret negotiations and talks with such brutal groups.

While our grieved people are burying the torn bodies of their loved ones in mass graves; the traitor lackey Said Tayeb Jawad, in his comfort in the USA, tries to dim the war crimes of his masters and about the killings of civilians, shamelessly salts people’s wounds saying, “this is a price we have to pay if we want security and stability in Afghanistan, the region and the world.”!

If his or other ignoble spies like him would lose their children and dear ones like the people of Bala Baluk, would they still become so stone-hearted and remain silent in the face of US/NATO war crimes in Afghanistan?

The only way our people can escape the occupant forces and their obedient servants is to rise against them under the slogans of: “Neither the occupiers! Nor the bestial Taliban and the criminal Northern Alliance; long live a free and democratic Afghanistan!”

The US and Her Fundamentalist Stooges are the Main Human Rights Violators in Afghanistan

The US and her allies tried to legitimize their military occupation of Afghanistan under the banner of “bringing freedom and democracy for Afghan people”. But as we have experienced in the past three decades, in regard to the fate of our people, the US government first of all considers her own political and economic interests and has empowered and equipped the most traitorous, anti-democratic, misogynist and corrupt fundamentalist gangs in Afghanistan.

In the past few years, for a thousand times the lies of US claims in the so-called “War on terror” were uncovered. By relying on the criminal bands of the Northern Alliance, the US made a game of values like democracy, human rights, women’s rights etc. thus disgracing our mournful nation. The US created a government from those people responsible for massacres in Pul-e-Charkhi, Dasht-e-Chamtala, Kapisa, Karala, Dasht-e-Lieli, 65,000 Kabulis and tens of mass graves across the country. Now the US tries to include infamous killers like Mullah Omer and Gulbuddin Hekmatyar into the government, which will be another big hypocrisy in the “war against terror”.

Like many others, you seem to prefer to forget that there is a whole lot more than one subgroup of the American-Israeli secular victim cult.

Did it ever occur to you that the invasions of both Iraq and Afghanistan were pre-planned to surround Iran, the real primary target of the American-Israeli victim cult?

Deposing and subjugating Iraq on the west, with its former US puppet dictator, and Afghanistan on the east, the supposed hideout of Al Queda, were dominoes in a strategy to encircle Iran.

Iran is a primary target of Ameri-Israel because Iran vigorously opposes the goals of the American-Israeli secular victim cult.

You seem to try to shift the primary blame of warmongering to christian fundamentalists and bible nuts, a minority group of complete idiots and illiterates, who couldn't plan a bowel movement let alone a coherent war strategy.

Do you actually believe an illiterate fool like Old Friend, the resident bible literalist, and people just like him, have enough brains to plan a domino war strategy to encircle and subjugate Iran?

Ask yourself this: why does Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi support aggressive war in the mideast? Do you actually believe these feminist hags support aggressive mideast war because they are bible believers? Are you silly enough to believe these feminist hags support aggressive mideast war because some jew or bible-nut has secretly given them a really big-bag of money?

Why do you implicitly believe the US is supposed to behave as a national democracy, effectively a social democracy? The dirty epicenter of zionism is here in the US, with the generally mistaken belief that the US is authorized to act as a National Democracy, and authorized to be an aggressive defender for a dominant Ameri-Israeli secular victim cult.

For gods sake, go speak to any US military grunt, or anyone that volunteered for US military service because they believe themselves to be patriotic. Ask them why they fight. You'll discover that they fight for what they believe are chivalrous purposes, the defense of womens rights being one of them. Believe it or not, many patriotic military volunteers believe that defending feminism is chivalrous, emulating the virtue of a knight in old feudal lore. You'll find that most of these delusional military bozos also support and protect abortion- on-demand. Why would you assume a typical US military volunteer to be a bible believer?

Why?
