January 8, 2010. We've all heard about shortages on ammunition. Some credit the shortage to an increase in domestic demand sparked by hysteria over the election of a Democratic president, who some believe will attempt to ban or restrict ammunition sales. A more likely reason is the impact of the two wars we're fighting, which create a demand for about 1.5 billion rounds of ammunition per year -- ammunition is being produced in huge quantities in the US, but it's ending up in Baghdad instead of Cabela's. Whatever the causes, the shortages are real and they can screw up your plans. Here's some numbers on ammo that I have on backorder with Midway USA. Good link! Thanks! I grabbed two 200 round boxes of federal 55 gr .223 fmj for $150 including shipping and insurance. Not a bad deal nowadays. They had a limit of two boxes per customer or I would have bought more. I long for the days when I could buy South African 300 round battle packs for $30 each though. lol I must have burned up 10,000 rounds of that stuff when I thought it was an endless supply.
Yeah - those days are pretty much gone. If you're outside of TX, try cheaperthandirt.com to see what they have.
Thank you for the link, I'll add it to my hunting folder. Fortunately, I usually find what I need locally at either Bass Pro/Cabela's/Academy Sports/Gander Mountain. I've got two surplus German wooden ammo chests full of ammo in addition to my hunting stock which I replenish as I go along. There's also Graf & Sons, Ammoman, Powder Valley, MidSouth Shooters Supply in addition to the big box stores.
