A buddy of mine sent me a late Christmas Present. It's a book called "Freakanomics".

It is by far and away the one of THE best books of all time, in regards to our society, money, and how the collective psyche in this country has become what it is.

I can tell you all without a doubt that it changed my perspective on a great many things, and I encourage EVERYONE to read it.

While this author touches, sort of, on the Ageing of America, not mentioned (at least in the synopsis) is immigration, legal or other.

I don't see this changing my perspective.

If it changed your perspective, then please enlighten us.

It goes off on a lot of tangents, but weaves together the psychology of how people perceive and use money, and how people essentially exploit the system to their own gain and advantage. They also treat economics to an examination of behavioral psychology, which really makes for interesting reading.

I'm currently re-reading it. The first chapter sets the stage for a LOT of good material covered later on.

my husband will love it since he's studied and researched money for several years and he's a neuropsychologist.

They discuss who was directly responsible for the greatest reduction in crime, EVER.

It wasn't putting more cops on the street, it wasn't funding a ton of crap, it wasn't the war on drugs, nor was it prosperity. It was actually making abortion legal that caused crime to drop.

Children who are raised in adverse conditions, are 10 times more likely to become criminals than children who grow up in stable homes with both parents.

The people who more likely to get an abortion, are people who are statistically more likely to either be criminals themselves, or be terrible parents.

There's so much in that book, but the issue of politics, is REALLY interesting. There's a reason why incumbents always seem to get re-elected, and it's not because they're doing a good job, it's because people believe that since they won once, that they'll win again, and the people always want to vote for a WINNER, or a sure thing, therefore, they never get out of the two party rut.

Lots and lots of this sort of stuff in the book.

What the HELL does a "neuropsychologist" perform in REAL life? Or is this a sensitive question?

Neuropsychology is the basic scientific discipline that studies the structure and function of the brain related to specific psychological processes and overt behaviors.

That explains why my worthless congresscritter keeps getting re-elected.

If you are going to advertise a book, at least have the guts to say what the book is about and who wrote it. And if you wrote it, at least admit to it.

People reelect congress people because they think that sonority in congress will bring more tax money back to them.

There is in fact some logic to this.
