As many of you know, a couple of years ago I sold my chain of medical equipment and supply stores and returned to college. While I attend a university, this semester I decided to do some tutoring at a local community college. I've been tutoring there for a week now and I am shocked by the number of young men and women I am seeing in wheelchairs. I have counted twenty so far. Most of them appear to be casualties from the Iraq/Afghanistan wars. I say this because almost all of them use their military rucksacks as their book bags.
Now that I think about it, there are quite a few young people in wheelchairs at the university as well. I guess it didn't stand out as much though because there are 25000 students at the university compared with the one or two thousand at the community college.
What a sad waste.
