SAN FRANCISCO - GOVERNOR Arnold Schwarzenegger suggested on Monday California could ease its crowded prison system by sending thousands of undocumented inmates to specially built jails in Mexico.

Speaking to reporters at the Sacramento Press Club, Mr Schwarzenegger said California could ease its strained finances by a billion dollars if 20,000 illegal immigrants currently held in the state were housed across the border.

'I think that we can do so much better in the prison system alone if we can go and take, inmates for instance, the 20,000 inmates that are illegal immigrants that are here and get them to Mexico,' Mr Schwarzenegger said. 'Think about it - if California gives Mexico the money. Not 'Hey, you take care of them, these are your citizens'. No. Not at all.

'We pay them to build the prison down in Mexico. And then we have those undocumented immigrants down there in prison. It would half the costs to build the prison and run the prison. We could save a billion dollars right there that could go into higher education.' Mr Schwarzenegger's remarks come as California prepares for the latest in a long line of state budget crises.

Mr Schwarzenegger declared a fiscal emergency earlier this month, warning severe cuts were necessary to stem a US$19.9 billion (S$27.8 billion) deficit.

California has some of the most overcrowded prisons in the United States, with an estimated 170,000 inmates housed in facilities designed for 100,000 people, according to 2007 figures.

Gee Arnold, I thought we couldn't find the illegals? Well, OK, lets get rid of these 20k, then maybe we can build schools in Mexico so all the illegal children in CA can be properly educated (in their native language, of course). Then we can build some health clinics and hospitals down there, but again, do it on the US taxpayers dime, not Mexico's. Arnold, you're brilliant and just maybe some other governors will grab onto your idea and run with it.

hehehehehehe...no kidding...I'm sure that Hairdo Perry would definitely jump on Ahnold's brilliant do gooder idea so that CA and TX could both re-build jails and schools in Mexico on the taxpayers' dime.

The Governator should have shut his mouth while he was ahead, like right around when he said "Hey, you take care of them, these are your citizens." That was good. Everything else was Maria Schriver talking.

:P well put. In days gone by the insanity he proposed would have gotten him recalled in a nanosecond. Now, most in CA have acquiesced to such nonsense. CA is over.

They say the third time is the charm. Californicators need one more actor as governor and it will all be over. After reagan, now arnold, and then maybe some real liberal next, and then a great big earthquake sending it all out to sea. If not another actor maybe they can get the jew bitch pelosi to run Californicate the rest of the way into the ground.
