(Spread the word, the local papers are pushing lies this is the real deal)

More Austin Business Journal readers said they would vote for Republican gubernatorial candidate Debra Medina than incumbent Gov. Rick Perry last week

The most recent BusinessPulse Survey asked readers if the primary election were today, who would win their vote. Out of the 1,582 that answered, 31 percent picked Tea Party favorite Medina compared with 26 percent choosing Perry. About 20 percent backed Houston Democratic mayor Bill White and 14 percent chose Republican U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Just 4 percent picked Democratic primary challenger and Houston businessman Farouk Shami, the same number that answered no one.

The poll counters a recent newspapers-commissioned phone survey that shows 45 percent of likely Republican primary voters will choose Perry, 29 percent would vote for U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison and 17 percent back Medina. About 8 percent polled between Feb. 2-10 answered undecided.

That poll included 1,508 registered voters and 464 likely GOP primary voters

Perry, Hutchison pursue Medina voters

Early voting starts Tuesday for the March 2 Texas primaries. On Monday, Gov. Rick Perry sharpened his attacks on rival Debra Medina over her refusal to acknowledge that the U.S. government had nothing to with the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Both Perry and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison are working to capitalize on Medina's controversial comments.

Sensing a chance to pick up support from undecided voters or those leaning toward Medina, Perry told News 8 just before he spoke to the Texas Conservative Coalition in Plano that Medina should apologize for her 9/11 remarks.

“I think I'm like the vast majority of the people of the State of Texas — offended,” Perry said.

Medina has backed away from her comment that "good questions" had been raised about a government conspiracy in the 9/11 attacks and she had no position.

In response to Perry's demand that she apologize, Medina campaign spokeswoman Nelda Skevington said, "We Texans at the Medina campaign think that Rick Perry should apologize for the record unemployment numbers in Texas."

But Perry isn't the one looking to attract some of the roughly 20 percent of likely Republican primary voters polls say back Medina, but who may be put off by her response to the 9/11 question.

The Hutchison campaign says voters rethinking their choice and looking for change should support the senator. Speaking in Houston, Hutchison tailored her comments, mindful of the Medina factor.

“We love our private rights," Hutchison said. "We love our private property rights.”

Perry perhaps has the most to gain from a Medina slip-up. If he can pick up five to six points in the polls from disaffected Medina voters, he could win the primary outright.

Perry has sharpened his pitch for the next two weeks. “Well, certainly we want people to look at the economy, because that's what drives the voter,” he said.

Perry and Hutchison mostly ignored Medina until her comments and her rise in the polls.

Medina now calls the attacks "diversions" from the issues.

Property Rights??? Try again. YOU HAVE NONE.

If you are paying taxes on property you own outright, and have a deed to, you do not own it. You're a tenant on the STATE'S LAND.

This notion of property rights, is laughable, because we don't own a fucking thing in this country. The State owns it all. If you buy a house, pay for it, and do not pay taxes, what happens? It's stolen from you. You are forced out of your "property" until you pay it, or die.

We own nothing in this country. NOT ONE DAMNED THING. If we did, we wouldn't be paying taxes on things we already supposedly own.

WHat you have to say is dead on. Which is why many of us are supporting Medina who wants to put an end to our property tax.

You are correct. We are a tenant on the STATE'S LAND.
