Title: Marie Osmond's Son Commits Suicide

Marie Osmond's teenaged son, Michael Blosil, has killed himself by leaping to his death around 9 p.m. Friday in Los Angeles, reports Entertainment Tonight, which quotes Marie's brother, Donny Osmond, as saying, "Please pray for my sister and her family."

Through her rep, Marie Osmond released a statement Saturday. It says, “My family and I are devastated and in deep shock by the tragic loss of our dear Michael and ask that everyone respect our privacy during this difficult time.”

According to ET, Michael left a note explaining he intended to end his life after a lengthy battle with severe depression that left him, he said, feeling as if he had no friends and could never fit in.

In 2007, Michael, then 16, entered a rehab facility. His mother said at the time, "My son Michael is an amazing young man, shown through his courage in facing his issues. As his mother, I couldn’t be more proud of him."

The reason for the visit to rehab was never disclosed. Michael is one of eight children Osmond has raised with ex-husband Brian Blosil.

By March 2009, Marie told PEOPLE that Michael seemed to be turning his life around. He was finishing up his last year of high school while living with his mom in Las Vegas, where she and Donny headline a show.

"I couldn't be more proud of him," Marie said at the time. "He's got a 3.9 GPA in high school. He's looking at scholarships to some wonderful colleges."

A rep for Donny and Marie Osmond confirmed to PEOPLE that the show at the Flamingo Hotel was canceled Saturday night. It is being determined how long the hiatus will remain in effect.

Marie Osmond, one of nine Utah-bred Osmond siblings, began performing with her brothers at age 3. She has been outspoken about the trials of her own life in the spotlight.

In her 2001 memoir Behind the Smile, she detailed her battle with postpartum depression following the birth of her son Matthew. She also revealed that she had been sexually abused as a child.

She did not identify her abusers but said they were not family members.

In 2006, Marie's rep denied that the singer had tried to commit suicide, attributing reports about Osmond to the postpartum she suffered.

Prior to the Federal Reserve Act, no political dreamer was ever wild enough to think of breaking down the lines which separate the States, and of compounding the American People into one common mass of slaves. Yet, this is exactly what has happened under Social Security, by creating a revenue base for the collection of interest on a fictitious national debt owed to the Federal Reserve banks, in other words, slavery to the national debt under the so-called 14th Amendment.

Not necessarily. I've been that low and no drugs were involved. Brain chemistry is a tough one.

Brain chemistry is a tough one.

For those family members that remain behind it can become "the" unanswerable question. One cannot avoid asking how low is the low that takes someone that far down. One's own outlook on life surely must play an important part. I look at life like it has never been mine to own but belongs to the Creator of the universe and is over before ya know it without taking a shortcut.

That being said, it's impossible to see inside of the mind that's disturbed especially when the person suffering the disturbance doesn't express it.

Considering the situation in my own family and knowing everyone intimately it is very difficult to understand it because everyone's situation in life was different and only my dad's suicide made sense at all. (His wife, a son and a daughter had preceded him in death by suicide. He'd also had a crippling stroke that left him half paralyzed and he was 77.

When he had the stoke, 3 years earlier, he'd tried to end it by getting shit- faced first. He staggered and stumbled into the bathroom with a pistol, fell down hitting his head on the toilet. He said he laid there all night long and all he could think was "this is really final" ... he passed out and went to the hospital the next day when my remaining sister and brother discovered him.

In my opinion, the drugs were able to put my dad, my sister and my mom in a surreal place mentally, making them capable of taking an indifferent attitude towards death.

I believe it's possible that my mom and sister were both manic depressive, even though in my little sister's case it wasn't at all obvious until immediately before she pulled the trigger. She had started taking the anti-depressants a couple of months prior, didn't like what they did to her, and quit taking them a couple of weeks before she took her own life. Her family doctor was a drinking buddy of her husband's and likely didn't have the expertise necessary to properly prescribe the medication.

Suicide is a difficult subject and I think it's one that's avoided by most people. I also believe that many instances of suicide are not diagnosed or reported as suicide that are suicides.

I don't think there can be any question that various psychotropic drugs are an uncertain attempt to correct a psychosis that often results in the exact opposite result than was expected. In some cases the drugs work and are beneficial, so it's hard to determine that they're always negative. I don't take any drugs, though I wouldn't mind a mushroom relapse once in awhile.

I think pharmaceuticals are more dangerous than street drugs even though both can have negative side effects.

It appears to me that all drugs effect people differently which indicates to me that your comment about brain chemistry is accurate.

I sometimes imagine a world without psychopaths in charge. Where everyone has the option to pursue their life without outside forces coercing them in any way to do things of any sort that are against their nature. Of course, that would be the end of psychopaths, and the beginning of "life" as it should be.

EDIT: I added the Elton John Good-Bye Norma Jean as a tribute to my mom (Carol Jean), who always loved me unconditionally regardless of my antics. She was gorgeous, and the most fascinating person I have ever known. It's hard for me to explain how someone so innately simple could be so fucking complicated. She was 49 when she died.

I don't fit in hardly anywhere, but I am not sad about it, I am proud of it.

If one is expected to compromise their values to "fit in" I'd advise against it as long as those values are respectful ones.

Society has mutated into a cess pool of non-values where everyone is allowed to be degenerate as long as they're willing to accept degeneracy in others. In my opinion, this is what creates a completely degenerate social atmosphere where it becomes necessary to withdraw or become a conscience free animal indistinguishable from a dog.

Washington D.C. would be a good example of what happens when everyone accepts everyone elses sick bullshit as normal or OK.

Sorry to hear that. It must be terribly difficult.

I don't dwell on it. It's impossible to figure out someone elses actions unless they flat out tell ya.

Another thing that I think is helpful is that we (our family) had a very open and loving relationship with each other. I couldn't have ever anticipated the deaths of my family members to have occurred as they did.

And for me, when it comes to rationalizing their deaths, I see the choices they made as their RIGHT to life or death. Knowing that it had nothing to do with me, and that there has never been a question between any of us as to the unconditional love we shared, I choose to let their decision be right for them.

I hear others say that they're angry because the suicide was inconsiderate of their feelings. I never had that feeling.

One's own outlook on life surely must play an important part.

Not really. The depressed mind is hard to understand unless you have been there. I can tell you that having seen the world from both sides of the line that the depressed mind uses a different logic than a normal mind. Simple things can be devastating and proof confirming whatever illogical train of thought is running through the depressed mind. Things that made perfect sense in the fits of depression make no sense once the depression lifts.

Case in point, as a young mother my infant dropped one of his shoes somewhere. The normal mind sees this, rightfully so, as routine and common. Other than the irritation of having to replace the shoe, nothing to get upset over. My depressed mind saw this as proof that I was not only a bad mother but a worthless human being. The well mind sees this as over reaction. The depressed mind sees this as perfectly logical.

Brain chemistry is very strange. It can cause you to see things that aren't there, hear sounds that don't exist and make the illogical normal. And brain chemistry can and does run in families.

Ya know I've had to consider the family chemistry thing, for sure. When I did consider it, my first thought was that I couldn't do it even if I wanted to because it would make my kids think the same thing, that they'd inherited it too.

Sorry to hear that you had the experience. Was it post-partem depression that lifted or did you get pharmaceutical relief ?

I remember when we were teenagers one of my friends had a bad trip, took off all his clothes and went running through the woods. He came back after about an hour later pretty happy though.
