He was making and selling a small device called a "zapper" that had a 555 timer, a couple of pennies, some copper shavings embedded in resin, a resister and capacitor or 2 (I built one myself, but forgot the specifics. It's a simple 555 timer circuit that you can find anywhere) and selling them for $100 - $150 each. What a racket!
