FLAT ROCK — Henderson County Sheriff's deputies on Sunday charged two men with stealing more than 500 spikes from an active railroad track in Flat Rock. Deputies received a call of suspicious activity on the tracks near Blue Ridge Road and caught Cruz Mario Carnacion, 37, and Jose Luis Trejo-Yanez, 35, collecting spikes, according to a statement from the sheriff's office. Investigators said the men were in possession of more than 500 spikes, which are about 7 inches long and weigh about a half-pound. Both were charged with felony conspiracy to damage railroad property, willful injury to railroad property, and trespassing on railroad property. The men gave no address of residence and deputies believe they are in the country illegally, according to the statement. They were each placed under a $25,000 dollar bond and ordered held on ICE detainers pending deportation proceedings. The sheriff's office and Norfolk Southern Police are continuing to investigate.

This latest incident is similar to arrests of illegal aliens stealing railroad tracks and spikes from railroads near Yuma, AZ, which was reported by US Customs and Border Patrol on March 11, 2008. "We believe that this documented pattern of illegal immigrants stealing railroad parts from tracks and putting American lives at risk is a form of terrorism that will likely not be reported by the national media,"said William Gheen. "America and Americans are under attack in our own nation and many times illegal aliens are engaging in domestic terrorism against our citizens and nation."
