SEATTLE - It gives new meaning to getting an extra shot in your latte.

Starbucks said it will stick to its policy of letting customers carry guns where it's legal. It does not want to be put in the middle of a larger gun-control debate.

The company's statement, issued Wednesday, was prompted by a campaign by some gun owners who have walked into Starbucks and other businesses to test state laws allowing weapons to be carried openly in public places.

Some of the events were spontaneous and others were bolstered by the pro-gun group OpenCarry.org.

The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence launched a petition drive demanding that the company "offer espresso shots, not gunshots" and declare its coffeehouses "gun-free zones." Subscribe to *Shooters*

I agree. I was over at a friend's house; you know, one of those 'the TV stays on even with company vid addicts,' and this story came on. She started cursing "gun freaks" and "how they ere ruining our country."

I opened my coat and showed her my hidden holster and told her I had a conceled carry permit. That I had left it I my car knowing she would have a herd of dairy cows if I had carried it into her house. (I knew she would disown me as a friend had I disrespected her home and castle with the 'evil' thing.)

It rattled her, but made her think. We talk about it a while and I changed her perspective slightly.

Although she did ask me not to wear the holster as well in her home next time fearing her son would see it and get ideas guns were OK. *Sigh* I am in Eugene, Oregon after all.

On that day I was going to Portland, Oregon and going to be moving around Old Town on a Cenelli Bicycle worth some money. And there has been strong armed bicycle thefts on the weekend evenings in the past and I don't trust that place at that time. Just so you don't just think I'm a smart ass needlessly.

Usually I just refuse to explain when I get a question like that. Because this is a forum where the question can be fair game, I'll be nice.

I was chased once for the bike at a light rail stop I had just gotten off at by a group of 'youngters.' I just barely escaped with the bike. I learned from that. Though honestly, sometime I just carry one of my concealables.

I started buying guns when in the U.S. Army and enjoy target shooting. I try not to be an easy target. Someone attacks me without cause of provacation, they are going to be one with a center mass shot.

maybe you should get a cheap bike, or at least scuff up your fancy one.

sand it down to bare metal, spray it at random with three different colors of primer.

dont wear your tights. or helmet. dress like a bum.

i'm afraid you might fall off your bike and shoot yourself by accident.

Heh, dude, dude, dude, fall off the bike? Shoot myself by accident? Yeah, right.

For one thing, I am very fit and used to race road bicycles, I don't have to even put my foot down when I balance waiting for the light. As for guns, I have been a gun fanatic my entire life, and I have some years in combat arms in the U.S. Army. Even when I was a 'mere' helicopter crew chief, I went to door gunner school, had to qualify on the hand gun range for the sidearm I had an armsroom card for, and I spend hours and hours doing paint gun playing, shooting at outdoor ranges and the indoor range at Jim's Pawn Shop in Fayetteville.

It's OK, live in your little world and think that liberal views always denote a gun weenie. I don't mind. But that was the most halarious, yet dumb thing you have ever postd to me. ;-D

As for the Cenelli, it is painted with Ferrari Red, has chromed forged lugs and special lightweight clod drawn, butted and heat treated tubing. It had a Campagnolo Churus groupo and is a LADY. I don't dress my ladies in rags. When they are as nice and as valuble a piece as that bike, you let it shine.

well, anyhow, once you've defended your "LADY", and the ambulance hauls off the casualties, and you've made your statement to the cops, it will be a comfort to drop into starbucks, with your gun, to have a five-dollar cup of coffee.

I hate Starbuck's product, and don't do anything but black coffee. Drip black coffee, expresso sucks. And as far as gun 'statements' go, I have lived with doing that all my life, it would be no new and novel thing to me.

you're so attached to your fancy bike that you're willing to risk killing somebody in order to continue riding it.

given your fascination with guns, it could be you're looking for trouble, whether you're willing to admit that to yourself or not.

And you are always fishing for a dissing. I love bicycles and own many. I have the ugly Windsor Professional, which was made in Mexico City in the early 70s when they made Cenelli cpies with Cenelli lugs and sold them to small bike companies that needed a nice top quality bicycle for their product line. It had a Cappagnolo Record groupo and is heavier then her sister, but looks ratty and horrible with oxidized silver paint; though the lugs are also chromed.

Or I can rid my LeMond cyclecross bike, or a Klein or Bridgestone mountan bike, I have options. But when I go to visit Portland I paid out the ass for the machine, and I love it. Not to mention Portland is a bike fanatic town, and riding that there is like driving an ego car/truck in So Cal. ;-D

so you're willing to risk shooting someone in order to play the portland bike snob game.

mind telling us what would be so glorious about a bike snob killing somebody over his bicycle?

snobbery has it's price, is that the idea?

"snobbery has it's price, is that the idea?"

Hiding in dark corners and dressing down so the bag ladies pushing a shopping cart look better than you to give into living in fear has a far higher cost to it.

It's just as easy to die or kill a million other ways; so I am never going to obsess about the risk assessment you make about my infactuation with nice bicyles and weapons you muse about to spin your little diss.

Hiding in dark corners and dressing down

yup, if you got it, flaunt it, even when it puts you in a situation...

or maybe... especially if it puts you in a situation where you might legally get away with murder.

"yup, if you got it, flaunt it, even when it puts you in a situation...'

So you are of the Islamic faith. I thought so.

All beautiful women flaut the risk of rape if they don't burka up, hot shot? You are incredibly funny, dude. You should hire out as a straight man to someone who need one to do a comedy routine.

common sense would tell any rational person that they shouldnt go into a bad neighborhood and show off their wealth unless they're looking for trouble.

you admit to a fascination with guns, you are unwilling to to admit to the common sense of "dressing down", so we can assume you're looking for a fight.
