My money was on you picking hard working, strong and much admired Boxer, Mud. : )

As an allegorical figure, Boxer represents the Russian working class, along with Clover. But, I think that Owell viewed the working class as pawns because it was the strength of the working class that allowed for the Russian Revolution in 1917. In Animal Farm, the pigs could never have come into power without the strength of the good-spirited and much admired Boxer.
