News flash from the University of California San Diego: Party-animal frat boys sometimes engage in stupid, offensive and even racist stunts! For weeks now, outrage over a fraternity party that encouraged guests to mimic and mock ghetto culture has embroiled the La Jolla campus in old-school political theater. Then, in a separate incident, a noose was left in a university library (a student anonymously took responsibility and apologized). And finally, a pillowcase made to look like a KKK hood appeared atop a statue of Dr. Seuss. In a diverse society, such incidents — which draw cleavages between groups — should be taken seriously. But such antics really don’t signify our race problem today, and no one should think that indignation, marches, sit-ins and “days of action” against buffoonery constitute an effective struggle against racism. It might be satisfying to draw lines against the clowns, but it diminishes the difficulty of the real challenge before us. Racism exists; it’s still a significant inhibitor of social and economic progress. And given the country’s majority-minority future, we simply can’t afford not to be preparing more minorities for positions of authority and leadership. This isn’t the unsubtle, in-your-face racism of your imagination. The real bad guys aren’t the easy-to-caricature toothless hillbillies of television dramas or some overweight, tobacco-chewing Southern sheriff. straight out of a half-century-old Life magazine. They don’t leave nooses as calling cards. Somewhere along the line, the fight against genuinely entrenched racism — the kind that keeps millions from achieving their dreams — turned into a slapstick struggle against ill-behaved clowns such as Michael Richards, John Mayer and foolish frat boys. A few years ago, while I was in Mississippi, I met a prominent self-described white supremacist who didn’t need a Klan hood to do more than his part to oppress African-Americans. During the height of segregation, he didn’t torch crosses in the dark of night; instead, he wore a suit and tie and put the economic squeeze on fellow whites who didn’t toe his racist line. In my presence, he never once cursed blacks or used the “N-word.” You can be a highly effective racist without all the obvious trappings. So much of our contemporary discussion of racism is really about propriety, insensitivity, symbolism and insults. Lost in the media tumult over incidents such as those at UCSD is a sensible definition of racism. To my mind, it is, in essence, the assumption or belief that an individual is intellectually or morally inferior by virtue of his genetic makeup. . Particularly when held by authority figures — teachers, police or employers — it can limit the life choices and mobility of the people who must endure it. Sometimes racism is linked to hostility or antipathy, but not always. You can think and act on the idea that someone is inferior without hating him or her. For that matter, you can hate someone without feeling superior. Although the latter is harmful to society, it’s not as insidious and difficult to identify as true attitudes of racial superiority. Personally, I’d rather know that someone hates me outright for my background than suffer the treacly dishonesty of racial condescension. All of this is not to say we should let offensive comments or antics slide. My point is that the bigger struggle is against the assumptions that many people still carry about the human capacity and potential of whole groups of other people. These more pervasive forms of modern racism tend to be expressed more indirectly. Contemporary racism is less and less about outright discrimination and more in the implicit expectations that, say, lead educators to demand less from some groups of children or supervisors to funnel minorities into lesser roles. Don’t obsess over the party, the noose and the hood. Today, what we have to fight is less the old clanging symbols than the quiet racism that keeps people from seeking and reaching their highest potential. Rather than self-righteously standing up against clowns, we should all be asking ourselves whether we too assume that a person’s race automatically makes him less valuable than we are. ——— ABOUT THE WRITER Gregory Rodriguez is a columnist for the Los Angeles Times. Ultimately all racism is irrational. Of course to the irrational they have fully rationalized it to themselves. However, that changes not one whit the reality. It is little more than cultural chauvinism and xenophobia. And it has changed little from the days of Uk the Caveman who beat out the brains of someone from a different tribe. "Ugh! You stranger, you dress funny, Uk kill!!" The problem with trying to analyze racism rationally is that ultimately it is doomed to failure if one is looking for rational reasons for racism. There are rationalizations, and justifications, but ultimately it is not based on a sound premise. Humans and humans are humans. And the rejection of "others" not of one's own tribe operates at a level below rational awareness. People may well try to justify the impulses and find "reasons" for the irrational impulses, but they still remain irrational. Never forget the irrational computation of the avowed racist: "If'n ya' don't hate Niggers then you's hates whites." Try analyzing that "logic" rationally. To say that we live in a "Mad Mad Mad World" is simply a statement of fact.

IMO, not until whites acknowledge minority set asides (we can all name a half dozen programs) is racism, nothing will be resolved, which is exactly what this government wants and fosters.
I agree - and it creates a division between white and black. As long as whites perceive blacks as receiving an unfair and unearned advantage there will be resentment. The problem is exacerbated by the indefinite percentage of blacks who see it as getting back at "whitey". When the first equal opportunity initiatives were given most fair thinking whites agreed that it was just, but it has continued on far too long to still be considered fair. I would in fact argue that such preferences have held blacks back - which was also the intent. There are a lot of hard working black Americans who can do just fine on their own - thank you. Bill Cosby has said as much as have some Black Pastors who aren't on the government "Gravy Train" and don't want to be. The issue of race in this country is still not one that is settled and will remain unsettled for some time to come. While slavery has been abolished nearly 150 years its legacy, and that of "Jim Crow" remain (and to be honest one of my direct ancestors was one of the largest slaveholders in North Carolina - however no one in my family, that I know of, has owned a slave for nearly 200 years - long before it was outlawed - despite proudly carrying the Stars and Bars). However, opening doors does not create an obligation to carry people across the threshold. However, there are always those who will take advantage - and they come in all colors and sizes. An opportunity opened up is another opportunity for graft. At this point the kindest thing that could be done for Black America is cut off the welfare and unequal opportunity programs. Of course those who benefit would initially have a hissy fit as they see the easy money disappear, but in the long run Black, and White, America would be the healthier for it. As long as people act and behave irrationally racism, and group exclusivism as in some "Religious" communities, will exist. You cannot legislate that away, and trying to impose by force an equality that is resisted and seen as unfair simply makes the problem worse. And of course that is what our would-be masters would have - the American People segragated by manipulation into warring camps and unable to come together to oppose the common enemy.

IQ tests are, to a large degree, a test of literacy not native intelligence. Holding onto your superiority complex is not justified by the data. There are significant illiteracy problems and a self defeating cultural bias against becoming educated and literate - among the Black Lower Class - which is probably 70% of the Black population. Raise the literacy level and you will see the I.Q. scores rise commensurately. However, it is my experience that bigots are generally of modest I.Q., and literacy, as well. Norming the numbers by adjusting for education level puts middle class Black America roughly on par with White Middle Class America. If you based I.Q. only on rural Southern Whites you would get a pretty dismal picture. No, all of the so-called studies purporting to demonstrate that the racists are right are flawed in that they do not account for the affects of illiteracy on scores - and even differences in language used among different groups. I like using my father as an example because of his background. He was a rural farm boy raised on the edge of an Indian Reservation. When he joined the Marine Corps according to their I.Q. Test at the time he had an I.Q. of 36. He then went on to Shoot #1 in the Marine Corps and finished second in the National Rifle Championships. Following the war he became a professional pilot and flight instructor. Years later it was revealed that there was an inherent bias built into the Marine Corps I.Q. Test. It was biased, by the language used, in favor of those who lived in large cities, and against those raised in rural areas. You see they have a different language use as far as common vocabulary. Thus anyone raised in the country scored lower not because they were less intelligent but because the test was written in language that was not their normal vocabulary. The same applies for the bias against "dumb Southern Hicks".

Maybe some zulu somewhere invented a new kind of hut or a novel use for cow dung, or something, and that led to a new civilization somewhere? I don't think anyone of any race here in the US would have those qualities in abundance. IMO as a rule we are too soft. But we would survive and rebuild. It happens every time. It just sucks that this keeps happening. We never learn from history. Whoever rebuilds need to come up with a way to keep all psychopaths out of power, forever.

you have to wonder about artists' function in society... do they really sense things ---changes--- before the rest of us? so you take crosby stills and nash in 1968, and that video of "long time gone" and woodstock (1969, post 20 above)... and you count the internal combustion engines in that video... then american oil production peaks in 1970 it's a big "WTF?"

anyhow, just to continue the sequence... kennedy was killed in 63... which was a change-of-command ceremony in which control of america passed from americans to israelis. the boomers, who were supposed to be the best-educated, most-powerful generation ever (by virtue of their numbers), were deliberately fucked up by the sexual revolution, womens' lib, drugs, and whatnot until they abandoned, in terminal apathy, everything but money. good. awareness of peak oil (which the big players saw coming from eons away) crept into the picture, and the rest is history.

Beyond the government spraying chemtrails on us, how do you enjoy the government social/ethnic and racial equalities through brute force law? Isn't that a matter of spraying, too?
The government denying them and changing the definition of the word 'contrails' should be a red flag to anyone that's aware of their M.O. The non-believers' ridiculing of the believers is always a good indication of what the truth is. One of the main reasons I continue to post this stuff. Their reaction is like a barometer.
Case in point.
You can always tell you are on to something good and valid that the government does not want accepted among the general public by the number of "de-bunkers" it draws. I have long been convinced that so-called debunkers, such as the Less Than Amazing Randi, work for, directly and indirectly, various government agencies such as the FBI (Feral Bureau of Instigation), and C.I.A. (Cocaine Importation Agengy). So, rule of thumb, is likely that the more debunkers and public attacks someone, or some group, attracts the more likely they are one of the good guys.
