Breakpoint ^ | 03/09/2010 | Charles Colson

Once again, archaeology confirms the accuracy of biblical history. That’s good news, but should it affect how we believers view Scripture?

Israeli archeologist Eilat Mazar has reported an exciting discovery—evidence that newly unearthed fortifications in Jerusalem were built 3,000 years ago. Based on the age of pottery shards that she found at the site, Mazar believes that the fortifications were built by Solomon, just as described in the Old Testament.

Of course that’s interesting news for Jews and Christians, but there’s a lot more to this than you might expect. As the Associated Press reported, “If the age of the wall is correct, the finding would be an indication that Jerusalem was home to a strong central government that had the resources and manpower needed to build massive fortifications in the 10th century B.C.”

That’s a direct contradiction to the views of some scholars who believe, as the AP puts it, “that David’s [and Solomon’s] monarchy was largely mythical and that there was no strong government to speak of in that era.”

No wonder that Mazar calls the wall “the most significant construction we have from First Temple days in Israel.” And if she’s right, we will have another link in the long chain of evidence that demonstrates the historical veracity of the Bible.

As I’ve said before on BreakPoint, discoveries like these are worth getting excited over—even though we need to be careful not to get too carried away by them. Every archeological, historical, or even scientific find that we make that supports the Scriptures is welcome news. They remind us that the Bible is a record of real people, places, and events—that as Dorothy L. Sayers put it, Jesus Christ was “born into history,” not into mythology.

At a time when the veracity of the Bible is under attack from all sides, such reminders are always refreshing and encouraging.

Yet at the same time, the primary source of our beliefs must remain the Bible itself. I made this point several years ago when archaeologists discovered an ossuary—that is, a box for bones—marked “James...brother of Jesus.” Even today there is controversy over the ossuary’s authenticity.

But even if the discovery of an ossuary or a city wall corroborates what the Bible says, that does not make the biblical facts more factual—it simply confirms them. And as historian Paul Johnson says, the confirming evidence for scriptural accuracy is mounting—so much so that the skeptics, not the Christians, must fear the further course of scientific discovery. But always remember—the Bible stands on its own credible witness, regardless of whether secondary sources confirm or seemingly contradict it.

If we get too caught up in each discovery that seems to support the Bible, we run the risk of building our faith on a less-than-solid foundation. And we run the risk of being disappointed and disillusioned should a certain artifact be somehow discredited.

Better to build our faith on the solid rock of God’s Word—even as the evidence continues to mount, this time from a pile of ancient rubble pointing to the Word’s veracity.

Several years ago, Paul Johnson gave a remarkable speech at Dallas Seminary called “A Historian Looks at Jesus.” It’s one of the best pieces on the accuracy of Scripture I’ve encountered. I encourage you to read it as well—and you can do that now because we have it for you at our website, BreakPoint.org.

We need to create green jobs for prisoners so government can further undermine any initiative free people might be feeling. And now that I think about it, that adorable woman of color on my TV some weeks ago was right, white parents should be penalized for reading to their young children, it's like they're trying to elevate them or something...

Oh boy. More crap for the so called believers to follow blindly.

The greatest con perpetrated against humanity was the Christian Bible. Live and Die for a wrathful god that forsakes all who do not grovel and prop up Israel.

Your doubts will be answered after you leave this earth. And as far as propping up Israel....

Revelation 2:9

I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.

Proverbs 17:15

He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD.

Titus 1:9-16

Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:

Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.

ne of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, the Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.

This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;

Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

Galatians 3:15-16

Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.

Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

Leviticus 26:

13 I am the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright.

14 But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments;

15 And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant:

16 I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

17 And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you.

18 And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.

19 And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:

20 And your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits.

21 And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.

22 I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high ways shall be desolate.

23 And if ye will not be reformed by me by these things, but will walk contrary unto me;

24 Then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins.

25 And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall avenge the quarrel of my covenant: and when ye are gathered together within your cities, I will send the pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.

26 And when I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight: and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied.

27 And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me;

28 Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.

29 And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.

30 And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you.

31 And I will make your cities waste, and bring your sanctuaries unto desolation, and I will not smell the savour of your sweet odours.

32 And I will bring the land into desolation: and your enemies which dwell therein shall be astonished at it.

33 And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.

34 Then shall the land enjoy her sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate, and ye be in your enemies' land; even then shall the land rest, and enjoy her sabbaths.

35 As long as it lieth desolate it shall rest; because it did not rest in your sabbaths, when ye dwelt upon it.

36 And upon them that are left alive of you I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursueth.

37 And they shall fall one upon another, as it were before a sword, when none pursueth: and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies.

38 And ye shall perish among the heathen, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.

39 And they that are left of you shall pine away in their iniquity in your enemies' lands; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them.

40 If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me;

41 And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity:

42 Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.

43 The land also shall be left of them, and shall enjoy her sabbaths, while she lieth desolate without them: and they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity: because, even because they despised my judgments, and because their soul abhorred my statutes.

This is the beauty of indoctrination.

I have left this world Twice. I can say with absolute certainty that whatever I go to, isn't going to be Fire and Brimstone, nor will it be angels and God's voice calling me home.

Using the bible to prove a point about faith, is a lot like using the book "Clifford The Big Red Dog" to prove that there's a giant red dog named Clifford Exists.

All the Christian Faith is, is a scheme brought about by other Jews, to enslave the followers of that belief to their will. Nevermind the fact that it is derivative of every religion since Zoroastrianism. When you die and come back twice, you let me know.

Until then, give it a rest. Everything you're seeing isn't a prophecy, it's a fucking playbook. It's a Script. God has no more use for one people over all, or one country over all, than you do for a condom, because you certainly couldn't use it if you had one.

Tommy, the first time I died in 1989 on the balcony of a seaside condo in Naples. I was unable to breath, because of pneumonia.

At the ER, the physician just shook his head and let me go. The second time, I had a theophany. It was only when I put these experiences into perspective that I was able to see things from an eternal perspective. I forgive your anger BTW

No one should be surprised. Scripture is 100 percent accurate.

And which set would that be?

The Catholic Version?

The Roman Vulgate (which is a translation from Greek which was a translation of an older text)?

The Nestorian Version?

The King James (which is a translation of a translation of a translation - at least)? (And of the 36,000 or so Christian denominations whose interpretation is correct?)

The New International?

The Scofield Bible?

The various Gnostic Scriptures?

The Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Yajur Veda and Atharva Veda?

The Koran?

The Book of Mormon?

That is why I am tolerant of others beliefs whether I agree or disagree. Since often it is a matter of viewpoint and belief rather than a reasoned position.

July 6th 2002... declared deceased... was 21 minutes... doctors had stopped trying... before that was in a coma for 2 months and for the next month and a half I was a vegetable. On both sides of brain parietal, temporal and frontal lobes were destroyed in motorcycle accident - 0% activity. Doctors have offered "stipends" if I would be willing to submit to a form a specialized therapy. 14 neurologists from around the country have said it is not possible, that I should at best be a complete vegetable and really should be dead.

3 hours after my blessing I opened my eyes and for the first time in almost 4 months was not a veggie. Had tubes all over and was being intubated. Had no idea where I was because when I went down I was knocked out and split my skull from back to front. Tried to ask my wife who was sitting there in the critcal care room next to me "where are we". She dropped the book she was reading and almost fell out of the chair... leaned over me and asked me if I knew who she was....

Do I remember ..... as if it was just a few minutes ago. Saw and heard my grandmother who was a devout Christian and who passed away in 1978 and she was telling me "too soon... Penny (my wife) needs you. Then she stopped and I heard "GO BACK, YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HERE YET, GO BACK, I HAVE THINGS FOR YOU TO DO, GO BACK". And yes, there was a very bright light.

It has been suggested by several pastors and others that I should write a book about my blessing and the miracles I have witnessed since my accident as well as some of the places I went and gave my testimony. Look up Inkslingers Ball and VooDoo Tattoo festivals and you will see just two of the places where I went ( I have many tattoos ), gave my testimony and was not pushed away.

You can say whatever you want... I am a miracle and I don't believe.... I KNOW! And if anybody doubts this or any of the miracles I have witnessed since my accident I have numerous witnesses for each. And I have copies of all my MRI and CT scans (there have been many) as well the results from EEGs and doctor's reports.

Again, you will be surprised.

Ridiculous. I am anaware of even one shard of physical evience that shows anything of the OT to be confirmed in the land of Israel.

Yet every piece of rock uncovered is pronounced by partisan Christian or Israel apologists, with little or, usually, no, reason, to show the OT Israleis occupied the land.

The only thing I know is what the Lord allowed me to experience and that He has kept reaffirming it all the years since my accident. Perhaps I will spend some time posting a few of the miracles I have been blessed to witness since then. Again, there are several that had others not been there to see it I would probably be looked at as a nut when I tell people about them.

Yes, there have been negatives caused by the accident. I have no sense of smell, cannot usually taste anything, often lose the 3rd dimension (depth perception) for hours at a time and have had to work very hard and learn to control my emotions, particularly anger, because the front part of the brain contains what the doctors told us are "suppressors of emotion", things that help control a person's feelings/emotions and I no longer have any of those. Needless to say I have to work hard at times to control it.

As I said, I love the look on the faces of doctors/neurologists when they look at my scans and medical documents. The last one, about 9 months ago, just sat there for about 5 minutes looking at them and kind of studdering. I smiled at my wife and said "let's make this easy.... one a scale of 1 to 10, 1 I am perfect and 10 I should be dead, what do my scans and medical records tell you I should be?" He studdered for a few seconds and then said "nine maybe a ten". We just smiled at him and asked him what he wanted to do next... I quickly asked if I would be willing to undergo another EEG at his office. We laughed and said "sure... just don't expect to see anything normal LOL".
