So I received my census form today. The only questions that it asked was how many people live in the house, their names, how they are related to me, whether they lived here full time, what race everyone is, their names and birthdays. That's it. I answered everything because they were all legitimate questions IMHO. The only thing that might give them fits is that I did not give them my phone number and for race I clicked the other box and wrote in "American" for all of us.

"Legitimate questions" or not, why is anything beyond the number who live there any of their business?

Your post made me curious, so I did a Google search and found that the Census Bureau began asking the names of individual family members in 1850. Prior to that they just wanted to know how many and what age groups they fell into and if you owned slaves. Interestingly, 1850 is also when they began asking for the names, ages and occupation of each family member, the address, value of real estate owned, whether someone had been married or attended school within that year, and whether each person could read and write.

I got one today also, it is the extended play version. I haven't looked through it's entirety, but when I send it back it will only have the number of persons living here and a nasty-gram about all the other BS questions. the closest I'll come to answering the race question will be the part of the nasty-gram where I tell them they can kiss my pasty white backside.

email from neighborhood ass'n - fyi -

Dear Neighbors -

The Census Bureau tells us "Census information affects the numbers of seats your state occupies in the U.S. House of Representatives. And people from many walks of life use census data to advocate for causes, rescue disaster victims, prevent diseases, research markets, locate pools of skilled workers and more". The calendar for the execution of the census is as follows:

March 2010 Census forms are mailed or delivered to households

April 2010 National Census Day—use this day as a point of reference for sending your completed forms back in the mail

April - July 2010 Census takers visit households that did not return a form by mail

December 2010 By law, the Census Bureau delivers population information to the President for apportionment

March 2011 By law, the Census Bureau completes delivery of redistricting data to states

For more information go to: 2010. census.gov/ 2010census/ index/php

The Census Bureau needs employees. According to their web site they are offering "Temporary, part time jobs that offer good pay, flexible hours and are close to home".

The U.S. Census Bureau is looking for job applicants to work with the 2010 Census. Peak hiring will be through May 2010 for temporary assignments, most lasting 5 to 10 weeks.

The jobs, which offer competitive wages and flexible schedules, also allow people to work in their neighborhoods. The pay for jobs in Austin begins at $17.00 per hour.

Most positions require US citizenship, a driver's license and use of a vehicle. Each applicant will undergo a background check.

To apply for a census job, call toll free 1-866-861-2010. For more information on the 2010 Census, visit www.2010census. gov

At the top of the page there is a link for job seekers.

I just asked Mrs.L about the mail, and she copped to receiving the questionnaire yesterday, completing it, and returning it.

She swears (under penalty of perjury) that all it asked were the number of persons living here and our dates of birth.

Shit on a stick!

They have all this crap from all sorts of records from IRS on up and down the line!

Are you humming me?
