The difference: Republicans didn't cut a backroom deal with the insurers.

They didn't have to!

Obama (the new Slick) beat ''em to it (his strategy is identical to Slick's triangulation during the G-L-B rape of America) . The messiah has given insurers a huge Christmas present of millions of new insureds (read the lower portion of what's left of the middle class and the the preexisting condition portions of the market). The insurance executives (with the optical acuity of a blind news vendor) fail to foresee that this "new market" will drive them out of business not very far down the road. As their costs and rates soar the hue and cry will arise for the temporarily shelved single payer option, its return is as certain as darkness follows sunset.

There will be a stampede of "free lunch" sheeple to gubmint healthcare. A relative handful of the critically ill may retreat when they get a taste of bureaucratic neglect and abuse (if there are any insurance companies still in existence). The Christmas package will vaporize like an olden days Japanese toy (I'm old enough to remember Jap junk).

The only groups not recognizing this scenario are the ins executives and the fever-swampers of the the Dim party.
