Bunch of weddings in Ajijic this weekend and we could not get a room from Thursday on. The owner of the hotel we are at, Sergio, God bless him, came to us and said he was sorry not to have a room, but he did have a cabin in the mountains, he had built for his mothers vacation place, at his ranch in Ixlahuacan that he could let us use, along with his Chevy Blazer to get around in. So, Sue and I are now occupying a small, beautifull kept, fruit ranch ( I see no cows)on a couple or four acres of land outside of this small, Kool as all get out, little town maybe ten miles from Ajijic. We even have a cupala - one of those little cathedrals set on top of the house for light and just because, I guess, but I like it. Did I mention that the climate appears to be perfect??? I do mean Perfect. Its a little hot right now in the direct sun, but there is a cool breeze and tonite we will build a fire in the adobe fireplace with pungent ceadar firewood. Had street tacos from the town square last night. Should have known the hot picaunte really was as one Mexican jumped up from his chair and started gulping water. I was bouncing around the kitchen after I had a bit of it as well, but they were more than tasty - muy sabroso. A meal for two for thirty six pesos!! (2.80 USD)- A danm good meal. O and while at the square we got a fellow to make us about a liter of fresh orange juice, Sue said he used seven to eight oranges, for twelve pesos, one USD. Took this back to the ranch house and mixed it with the 100% aguave tequlia we had, along with a hefty shot of lime juice - and sat outside on the arched terrace enjoying the quiet Mexican village night. All for the same cost of the hotel room, which was just great, but not a ranch - fourtyeight USD! Including the Blazer. So this morn we walked around the very pretty and clean village to a small chapel built high above the town, with, I guess, about a thousand stairs. Nice workout and views, kept noticing equine scat along the stairs and I guessed it was from donkeys, cause I could not imagine a horse traveling this steep path. On the way down we noticed a two foot tall white donkey munching around in the bushes - I went over to see it. I walked away to mom and dad. I usually bring with me some hard candy to give to children, with parents premission, so I walked up to dad and tried to give him a piece. He was suspicious, eventually I just dropped it on the ground. He found it and was an instant convert. So now mom was interested. Gave her some, and the fight started. They were snapping at each other to get close to me, or rather the candy. So now I am in the bushes with two agresive donkeys after me, or the candy, and I call for Sues help. She is further down the stairs, and sees me bolting out of the bushes, persued by two overly friendly donkeys. So she helps out by laughing hysterically as I bounce down the stairs fully expecting to lose a chunk of backside by sapping donkey teeth. So Sue has a dentist appointment, and we are a small bit late. We fail to take the correct turn off and are now plain ole late, and I run a red lite, at nine miles an hour. Here comes the police motercycle cop. We are in trouble, its Friday, the justice center closes in minutes, were departing the region Sunday aym, and the ticket is $500 MP. I paly dumb (comes naturally) and Sue metions that the dentist appoint is right now. So now the cop is a nice guy, and says the dentist is more important that the ticket, but maybe their could be some compromise here, and mentions "propina". I know what this is, but fearful of a bribery sting, pretend not to understand, but soon it is very clear and we subtley pass him a hundred, and tha matter is done. He said it was too much, but offered no change - go figure. More later - we are going to drive the rustic roads of this pretty valley in the mountains of Ixtlahuacan.

Sounds like "no room at the inn" really worked out to your advantage! The aguave teqila drinks sound especially good the way you describe them.

Forgot to mention the tequila - I learned about Don Julio down there. This is the top of the top-shelf stuff; sipping tequila, and too good for mixing, imo. If you can find some of this padre brewed stuff, try it, and let us know what you think. Cheers.

"Satan / Cheney in "08" I checked it out, Lod. Must be God's tequlia, even at the real markets, that stuff is expensive. Something like $25USD a .375. I'll keep it in mind for, but have been pleased with some 100% stuff I bot at the Indian market, can't remember the name, was $95 MP a 750, so about seven USD's. Sue and I made a horrible mistake today. We had (I rather) had long planned on bringing back the two permitted bottles per traveller to the US. As confusuion regins on the last part of a long trip, we found ourselves at the bording gate with four hundred pesos and no tequlia. A sad ending to a happy trip.
