Whenever school let out, Jahnya Ware would lace up her blue Hannah Montana high-top sneakers and sing along to the pop star's CD.

The 7-year-old knew all the words.

``She would dance and sing,'' her cousin Michael Georges, 21, recalled. ``She made us all smile. She brought us happiness.''

But on Friday night, Jahnya's life was cut short when a car she was riding in was riddled with bullets on a Little Haiti street.

``My baby, she's innocent,'' her mother, Estelle Voltaire, said sobbing at Miami police headquarters Saturday afternoon. ``They took my baby. My only girl.''

Throughout the day, detectives searched for answers in the senseless killing of the young girl, as her family grieved. Police say the car was targeted, but do not know why, and they along with tearful relatives pleaded for help from the public.

``I'm sure there were witnesses,'' said Miami police homicide Sgt. Confesor Gonzalez. ``Unfortunately, at this moment, no witnesses are willing to talk to us.''

On Saturday, authorities said they were looking for 23-year-old Israel ``Zako'' Jean, whom they consider a ``person of interest'' who may know something about the crime.

``We don't consider him a suspect,'' said Gonzalez. ``We know he's associated with people in the area. We have reason to believe he has valuable information.''

A police ``Need to Locate'' flyer for Jean says he has a criminal history, including aggravated assault, armed robbery and possession of cocaine.

The little girl was in a gold Chevy Impala with her mother and two others -- a 25-year-old driver and her 3-year-old daughter.

They were going to pick up food from Wendy's before 9 p.m., family said.

As they drove down Northeast Miami Place around 64th Terrace, at least one person armed with an assault rifle opened fire from another car.

Police say the car was targeted, but that the girl was not the intended victim.

Bullets sprayed the Impala, striking Jahnya. The 25-year-old driver was also hit in the back of the neck, said police, who did not release her name.

The burst of gunfire brought John Henry, 28, to the window of his apartment building. ``It was probably 12 or 13 seconds of straight rapid fire,'' he said.

The Impala's driver sped off. She made it a short way to Northwest First Avenue and 64th Street, along a block lined by modest one-story homes.

Little Jahnya was pulled from the back seat as her mother wailed, `` `Help me, help me, my baby is shot,' '' according to Shenna Fernandez, 51, who came outside after hearing gunshots.

The injured driver sat on the ground, cradling her child and crying.

The woman, a friend of Jahnya's mother, was in stable condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, police said.

Saturday morning, Mayor Tomás Regalado went to the scene of the shooting along with detectives and the police department's victim advocate to talk to the girl's grieving mother.

``To have a child killed, that's the ultimate horror,'' he said, adding that Jahnya's funeral will be paid for by the city.

Family and friends mourned the little girl, a student at Miami Shores Elementary School.

Jahnya loved to dress up, topping her outfits with bangle bracelets, earrings, rings and a dab of lip gloss. She always asked her mom to put beads in her hair.

``She was a fun loving girl, always making everyone laugh,'' said her uncle, Ernest Voltaire, 27. ``She was a strong girl.''

``We're just trying to find out who did it. She was innocent.''

Known as Nana to her family and friends, Jahnya was described as a bright child who enjoyed going to school, her aunt Jennifer Voltaire said.

She was especially good on the computer, always asking to visit websites with math and reading games.

As much as Jahnya loved teen pop star Hannah Montana, she also loved playing football with her 9-year-old brother and cousins. Her cousins described her as a tomboy.

But she could be a little bit uncoordinated, too, they said -- something she liked to laugh about. She'd walk with her heels touching her toes, drop food and fall from scooters, all things that earned her the nickname, ``Clumsy.''

On Saturday, the name echoed in relatives' moans.

``Give me clumsy back,'' one relative cried.

Jahnya yearned to become a cheerleader when she grew up.

``She was a happy girl,'' said cousin, Romie Barlatier, 23. ``She was our princess.''

The Miami-Dade school district will provide grief and counseling services to the children at Miami Shores Elementary on Monday.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami homicide at 305-603-6350 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.

There are some things being left unsaid here.

That nameless 25yo driver was the target, I bet. Either that, or "Israel ``Zako'' Jean" was.

Now, would anyone ever take a ride with someone you had to know was a gangbanger or associated with one to the point that that person could borrow his hooptie?

I bet that mother was not as pure as the driven snow. She put her kid in danger.

Can you add anything JT?
