For one thing, it's not a Masonic handshake. It seems to me just an awkward handshake as Old George stretches his arm across Laura and Young George, as seems to befit him, doesn't stretch his arm at all, making this reach stressful on his father. In fact, W is so typically thoughtless that he takes his father's hand at an angle which turns his father's elbow in an uncomfortable way and the father turns the hand back after a second. (Do you really think that father and son need a special handshake to recogize each other??)

The Masonic handshake is distinguished by the position of the thumb. Frankly, it resembles the handshake of someone with an arthritic hand, so it is rather easy to be mistaken even by longterm members.
