In God we trust. Obama's new Attorney General, Eric Holder, has already said this is one of his major issues. He does not believe the 2nd Amendment gives individuals the right to bear arms. This takes literally 2 clicks to complete. Please vote on this gun issue question with USA Today. It will only take a few seconds of your time. Then pass the link on to all the pro gun folks you know. Hopefully these results will be published later this month. This upcoming year will become critical for gun owners with the Supreme Court's accepting the District of Columbia case against the right for individuals to bear arms. They worded the question wrong. The question should say something like, "Was the second amendment added to the Constitution to protect people's right to keep and bear arms/own weapons?" No amendment gives anyone any rights and the founders never claimed they were giving anyone any rights. Having said that I did vote yes on their wrongly-worded question. I recognize that I have a right to protect my life, liberty and property, and that of my family and friends, second amendment or no second amendment.
Liberty is not a means to a higher political end. It is itself the highest political end. Just under 650K voters, 97pc, said YES!

The numbers are heartening, no doubt. The question is based on a highly faulty assumption, but I think that most people take the spirit as opposed to the letter when answering.

It could be that the one who framed the question was "ignunt" and actually believed the propaganda about how our rights come from the government and that the founders gave them to us when they wrote the Bill of Rights. But as I have explained to people before, the government has not given anyone any rights by listing a few of them on a piece of paper. If they could grant us rights by doing that then they obviously can take them away by writing contradictory words on another piece of paper. The fact that they do limit and take away rights does not make the taking legitimate, just means that they are in breach of their oath of office and should be removed from office.
