(Phoenix, AZ) -- Mexico's Foreign Relations Department has issued a travel advisory for Mexican citizens who plan on visiting Arizona. The warning urges travelers to carry proper documentation and "act with prudence and respect for the framework of local laws." The statement warns Mexican visitors there is a quote, "adverse political environment for migrant communities and all Mexican visitors." Last week Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed into law the country's toughest immigration laws. The controversial measure makes it a misdemeanor to be in Arizona without documentation that proves visitors and residents are in the country legally.
The law also requires local law enforcement check the status of anyone suspected of being in the country illegally.
Critics say that aspect opens the door for racial profiling.
