(Phoenix, AZ) -- Mexico's Foreign Relations Department has issued a travel advisory for Mexican citizens who plan on visiting Arizona.

The warning urges travelers to carry proper documentation and "act with prudence and respect for the framework of local laws." The statement warns Mexican visitors there is a quote, "adverse political environment for migrant communities and all Mexican visitors." Last week Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed into law the country's toughest immigration laws. The controversial measure makes it a misdemeanor to be in Arizona without documentation that proves visitors and residents are in the country legally.

The law also requires local law enforcement check the status of anyone suspected of being in the country illegally.

Critics say that aspect opens the door for racial profiling.

Poster Comment:

LOL! Now the corrupt Mexican government is discouraging "undocumented immigrants"? What a bunch of RACISTS!

Oh, the humanity! /s

I don't think the problem is so much getting into Mexico but getting back to the US. It is wise to carry a US Passport.

Hegelian Dialectic

Is that similar to the Viva la Raza dialect?

Sniff, sniff....oh the horror of it all. People traveling to another country are actually expected to carry the proper paperwork.

I don't feel a lot of pity for them since, as an American, I have to have a passport and a visa to enter other countries. And if you want to live and work in another country be prepared for heaps of bureaucracy and lots of paperwork.

Exactly. It is ridiculous James. Why the hell shouldn't people traveling to another country need to carry the proper paperwork? I have to produce indentification in my own country for all kinds of things. The real question is why have illegals NOT been required the same documentation as citizens in our own country? Why is the Mexican government only stating the OBVIOUS now? And, last but not least, why apply the statement to Arizona only?

The question to me is why don't we model our immigration laws after Mexico's. Surely they couldn't quibble over that, eh?

Under Mexican law, illegal immigration is a felony. The General Law on Population says,

* "A penalty of up to two years in prison and a fine of three hundred to five thousand pesos will be imposed on the foreigner who enters the country illegally." (Article 123)

* Foreigners with legal immigration problems may be deported from Mexico instead of being imprisoned. (Article 125)

* Foreigners who "attempt against national sovereignty or security" will be deported. (Article 126)

Mexicans who help illegal aliens enter the country are themselves considered criminals under the law:

* A Mexican who marries a foreigner with the sole objective of helping the foreigner live in the country is subject to up to five years in prison. (Article 127)

* Shipping and airline companies that bring undocumented foreigners into Mexico will be fined. (Article 132)

Mexico is a nice place for criminals it seems. I don't really blame Mexicans for wanting to leave a nation as corrupt as theirs, only problem is ours is quickly becoming just as bad.

God is always good!

Especially the ones who run the government. In that respect it is no better or different than the United States. The worst crooks of all run the governments.
