poster's comment:
Crystal has been compared to Janis Joplin, whom she has said heavily influenced her. She continues competing as the favorite on American Idol tonight.
On the 4th of October 1970, my heart broke in a thousand pieces when Janis Joplin from Texas died. So it is nice to see her still looked upon as a musical role model.
Crystal from Ohio is a diabetic, I believe she would die real fast if she tried to go the same route with heroin and Southern Comfort.
I really like Crystal and of course she's a very moving performer, but there will always be only one Janis Joplin.
You lucky dog you. I would indeed have loved the opportunity. Mama Sox is really developing a big stage presence at American Idol and no doubt will be one of the very successful people who have done that reality show.
So, I really want to see her perform live. *Sigh* Too young to have had a crush in the realistic sense on Janis as I hadn't even started shaving when she died. And with Crystal I am the double nickle in age and would be a dirty old man to entertain such thoughts.
Life sure is grand, but it also can bite the big one in many ways too. ;-)
that song does tell hr tale alright. She told one reporter who mentioned the dangers of singing so fiercely hard that she would rather sing memorably and burn out young than to sound half as good for much longer.
There will always only ever be one Janis Joplin. Grateful Dead front man Ron McKernan (Pig Pen) was someone she had a long friendship with, and he said that he was the only one of the San Francisco sound crowd she ever allowed to call her 'Tex.'
She was a sweet soul who was very generous and was often exploited for free food and drinks at night clubs by people who would feel she was rich enough to leave the tab with. She was famous and knew many people, but sometime fame can be one's worst enemy.
