CASA GRANDE, Ariz. - A Pinal County sheriff's deputy is hanging for dear life after he's shot by a group of suspected illegal immigrants Friday.

It happened during a traffic stop on the I-8 west of Casa Grande and south of Phoenix. The deputy stopped a vehicle containing a group of suspected illegal immigrants when he was shot.

He radioed in to report he was shot in the abdomen with an AK-47 assault rifle while in a desert area, Pinal County Sheriff's spokeswoman Tamatha Villar says.

The deputy stayed on the line with authorities to help guide them to his location. A DPS Ranger helicopter with a paramedic has landed and is airlifting the deputy to a hospital.

The Pinal County Sheriff's Office tactical team are also searching for five more suspects, who fled. So far, two people have been caught.

Customs and Border Protection agents stationed in Tucson are also on their way to help in the search, and are equipped with night-vision technology in case the manhunt extends into the night.

Traffic in the area is also being impacted.

The shooting comes on the heels of the passage of a controversial Arizona immigration enforcement law.

We're being subjected to terrorism, and the FedGov couldn't give a squat.

The white guilters will be on their knees in prayer all nite, hoping the deputy dies and the beaners get away.

Drug smugglers suspected in attack on Ariz. deputy

By BOB CHRISTIE (AP) – 1 hour ago

PHOENIX — Law officers backed by helicopters hunted gunmen in Arizona's desert early Saturday after a sheriff's deputy was wounded by suspected marijuana smugglers, officials said. The violent episode came amid nationwide debate over the state's tough new immigration law.

Pinal County Deputy Louie Puroll was patrolling alone Friday afternoon in a rugged area near Interstate 8, about 50 miles south of Phoenix, when he came upon a band of suspected smugglers, authorities said.

At least one of five suspects opened fire on the 53-year-old lawman, tearing a chunk of skin from just above his left kidney. The officer was found after a frantic hourlong search, Pinal County sheriff's Lt. Tamatha Villar said.

The wound was not serious and Puroll was released Friday night from Casa Grande Regional Medical Center.

State and federal law enforcement agencies deployed helicopters and scores of officers to search a 100 square-mile zone near the Interstate and Arizona 84 for the suspects. The Arizona Republic reported officials said more than one of the choppers came under fire during the manhunt.

Villar said Saturday morning that no arrests had been made, and the search would continue throughout the day.

The shooting was likely to add fuel to an already fiery national debate sparked last week when Gov. Jan Brewer signed a law cracking down on illegal immigration in the state.

As far as I'm concerned, we should be rounding them all up and sending them back home. Whether it be pig or pork, they need to leave. While we're at it, let's rid ourselves of the bankster traitors, and the political whores who enabled this mess.
