Nice. My ferrets are in full shedding mode, I'll have to go get one.

The suckers are not cheap, but after my neighbor demo-ed it to me, I believe it will be well worth the quiche handed over.

And down here, we're just coming into the full-blown shedding time of year.

The Furminator can only impress people who have never been in a full-size pet supply store (like PetCo or PetSmart). It is simply a fine tooth comb, similar to a great many combs available for pet grooming (or in drug store for human barbering) for about $8, -- except, instead of the usual rattail handle, its handle is attached perpendicular to the comb, so it operates more like a rake. They added $40 to the price just for that feature.

There are plenty of wire brushes in pet stores with similar perpendicular handles and, if you have the tiniest amount of mechanical ability, you can take the handle from one and put it on the comb.

My long haired cat had seriously matted fur and would cry and scratch if I tried a conventional comb. I saw the ads for the Furminator and saw one close up in a store. I didn't buy it but I analyzed its structure. I went home, took the wire brush and held the cat on its side (gently, but with my hand out of range of its teeth or claws) and used the wire brush vigorously -- not with slow long strokes such as I had unsuccessfully tried previously with the comb, but quick fast strokes like those used with a carpenter's plane or to peel a carrot. The cat did not fight or complain the way it did when I tried slow strokes to undo the tangles. Tangled fur literally flew off and I finished up with a pile of fur around a very calm kitty, just like in the Furminator ads, but without the outrageous price.
