158 YEARS AGO THIS WEEK

Do you know what happened this week back in 1850, 158 years ago?

California became a state. The State had no electricity. The State had no money. Almost everyone spoke Spanish. There were gunfights in the streets. So, basically, it was just like it is today, except the women had real breasts and the men didn't hold hands.

All things considered, it might have been the most beautiful region of the world in 1850...

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.”—Samuel Adams

I live in the Midwest, and many people from California and the West Coast in general have moved here.
