everybody knows that the supply of oil is infinite, that doubling the amount of greenhouse gases will only make food grow quicker, that there's no way in hell that we could be fucking the planet up, that jesus will save us, that we should believe the israelis and israeli americans. so what's the upside of human stupidity, bullheadedness, magical thinking, and deception?

dont you think it's a good thing that so many people are victims of stupidity, bullheadedness, magical thinking, and deception? doesnt all this random and stupid behavior enhance humanity's chances of survival?
after all, only a small fraction of one percent of salmon eggs have good enough ideas to survive long enough to spawn... we can only wonder if the survivors were politically correct, salmonly speaking.
so what it boils down to, is: the bigger variety of haywire ideas we have, the better chance we have, as a species, to survive. someone, somewhere, is bound to be on the right track. fuck a bunch of scientists.
if you look at it from a scientific point of view, it seems likely that human catastrophes have been a common occurence... and the people that survived those catastrophes just happened ---maybe for one supposed reason or another, maybe out of sheer chance--- to be in the right place at the right time. the beauty of the situation is that you can be right for the wrong reasons. the only thing that makes you undeniably "right" is survival... and survival can be accidental.
I wish I could plunder their own naivete akin to a banker taking their savings and paying .02%/annum interest while they use a credit card issued from the same bank at 18%/annum. HELL, I would even increase their credit card limits beyond 100K. There are those that say GOD is going to make all this right. Since I haven't seen any serious attempts lately (GOD's booming voice, burning bushs, angels, trumpets blowing) beyond ebay sales of rice cakes with Jesus's face imprinted as well as chemtrails in the sky, I would have to say no.

I was once told while a young engineer by some senior level engineers at a lunch once ( I had just received an award benefit for an outstanding job, beating on Cypress Semiconductors for their VIC68 integrated circuit and creating a work-around that was timely, and cost effective ) that no matter how many ATTA_BOYS I received in my career that all it takes is one AH_SHIT and the slate is wipe cleaned as a whistle. I have learned through time, that is a precise axiom of the universe.

no. i'm saying that mormons, for instance, by hiding food in the basement of their churches in anticipation of the deathwish christian end times, might be more likely to survive the dieoff. they were prepared, but they were prepared in anticipation of jesus showing up, which is unlikely.
in this extreme case, mormons should be encouraged in their doofus beliefs, because they might be right for the wrong reasons. ...assuming for the sake of argument that the survival of humanity is a worthwhile goal.
For about two thousand years (now) Jesus was going to descend on the planet. So far, when looking up, all a few people see are chemtrails while the rest of us see So even IF Jesus descended, the event would still create controversy and potential mayhem and war. I don't he is coming ... then again, I am not a soothsayer or a prophet.

It is itself the highest political end. anyhow, to sum up, we have to recognize the value of stupidity. stupidity may lead people to completely haywire paths, but, given the potential for unanticipated situations, that haywireness may have led people into positions that enhance their chances of survival. so variations human behavior, based on whatever ill-begotten belief, will lead to better chances of human survival... ...assuming the scientists have got it all wrong, and western civilization, based on the scientists' science, is bullshit.
Personal failure often leads to a desire for improved survival methods which directly leads to greater chances of success.

Scientific fact as opposed to mere "hope" actually improves the odds of survival since you put it that way. Since the Industrial Revolution (just one example) the average longevity of Americans has increased from about 46 years in 1900 to about 85 years (today). Now that is awesome!
