4um: Top Official Says Feds May Not Process Illegals Referred From Arizona

A top Department of Homeland Security official reportedly said his agency will not necessarily process illegal immigrants referred to them by Arizona authorities.

John Morton, assistant secretary of homeland security for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, made the comment during a meeting on Wednesday with the editorial board of the Chicago Tribune, the newspaper reports.

"I don't think the Arizona law, or laws like it, are the solution," Morton told the newspaper.

The best way to reduce illegal immigration is through a comprehensive federal approach, he said, and not a patchwork of state laws.

The law, which criminalizes being in the state illegally and requires authorities to check suspects for immigration status, is not "good government," Morton said.

In response to Morton's comments, DHS officials said President Obama has ordered the Department of Justice to examine the civil rights and other implications of the law.

"That review will inform the government's actions going forward," DHS spokesman Matt Chandler told Fox News on Friday.

Meanwhile, DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano said ICE is not obligated to process illegal immigrants referred to them by Arizona authorities.

"ICE has the legal discretion to accept or not to accept persons delivered to it by non-federal personnel," Napolitano said. "It also has the discretion to deport or not to deport persons delivered to it by any government agents, even its own."

Morton, according to a biography posted on ICE's website, began his federal service in 1994 and has held numerous positions at the Department of Justice, including as a trial attorney and special assistant to the general counsel in the former Immigration and Naturalization Service and as counsel to the deputy attorney general.

Border apprehensions in Arizona, where roughly 500,000 illegal immigrants are estimated to be living, are up 6 percent since October, according to federal statistics. Roughly 6.5 million residents live in Arizona.

Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-AL, said it appeared the Obama administration is "nullifying existing law" and suggested Morton may not be the right person for his post if he fails to enforce federal immigration law.

"If he feels he cannot enforce the law, he shouldn't have the job," Sessions told Fox News. "That makes him, in my view, not fulfilling the responsibilities of his office."

Sessions said the U.S. government has "systematically failed" to enforce federal immigration law and claimed Morton's statement is an indication that federal officials do not plan on working with Arizona authorities regarding its controversial law.

"They're telegraphing to every ICE agency in America that they really don't intend on cooperating with Arizona," Sessions said. "The federal government should step up and do it. It's their responsibility."

"If he feels he cannot enforce the law, he shouldn't have the job," Sessions told Fox News. "That makes him, in my view, not fulfilling the responsibilities of his office."

Now wait one damned minute. Arizona is enforcing *FEDERAL LAW*. So this clown is saying that he will refuse to enforce FEDERAL LAW because of his own whims.

Well now, we apparently get to pick and choose what laws we follow. And that's a great thing, because frankly I'm freakin' sick and tired of paying income tax, for one.

I guess Obama and his crew had their fingers crossed when they swore to uphold the laws of this Nation and to protect and defend it.

There's going to have to be some serious insurrection and civil disobedience before we get control of this thing.

I am curious, where in the Constitution is it specified that processing immigrants is a power of the Fed Gov? It may, but I can't recall the section if it exists. Also, the Fed has already written the law, Arizona isn't writing immigration law, it's enforcing Federal law.

MEGAN KELLY invited John Worton on her program to FURTHER explsin his quitting as head of the U.S. - ICE. Fox news reported that he quit because he refused to carry out the new Arizona Immigration Enforcement Law that Jan Brewer- Gov. of Arizona signed.

Gov.Brewer was on Gretta Vansusternen's TV program last night saying she will carry out the law passed by her state legislators.

Very astute observation. Otherwise, nothing will change, or if it does, it won't be for the better. Ya can't just wish it to get better, ya can't vote to get it better. That leaves only one solution and anyone who can't realize that is in for a rude awakening. Things are so messed up they are beyond repair. Time to shut 'er down and start over and preferably without the jews. They control our media, our money supply, our banks, wall street, and got a good grip in our politics and our SC and got us fighting wars for their benefit. All these things are messed up, therefore they must be at fault. Do you believe it is deliberate?

Two years ago the Libertarians thought New Hampshire would be a great state to move to en masse. Maybe AZ will be the place to make a stand?

Now THAT would be an EXCELLENT idea. Just put them all on a bus, bring them to LA, and tell them if they come back to Arizona they'll be charged with a felony.

I wasn't thinking riots. I was thinking outright revolt. Of course there might be a few crazies out there who grab a few of the pols and take out their frustration on the darlings. I sure am glad that I don't live in a great big house, drive an expensive car or SUV. When TSHTF those people will be the first targets and it will be the illegal immigrants who start the scavaging.

When I finally got through to the Governor's office, I identified myself, and said, "I'd like to thank the legislature, and the Governor of the great state of AZ for doing what the worthless kenyan, and the gutless congress of this country refuse to do."

After cracking up (I guess on the kenyan part), she thanked me and said that the Governor would get my message.

I just now lit it up. I called the Kenyan "worse than useless" and thanked them for doing what the federal government was supposed to do but refuses to do.
