Good morning. Here's what you need to know:

• Asian markets fell significantly overnight due to increasing geopolitical fears associated with the Korean Peninsula. European markets are also down hard in early trading on similar news, as well as concerns over the Spanish banking system. U.S. futures are down ahead of today's trading day.

• Case-Shiller housing data is released at 9 AM EST. See the numbers as they are released live at The Money Game >

• Tensions are escalating on the Korean Peninsula as both North and South Korea prepare for war. The North has threatened to destroy the South's propaganda speakers at the DMZ, and is preparing its troops for war.

• The situation in Thailand has returned to calm for now, but the country is now charging former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra with terrorism for his relationship with the protest movement in the country. • Concerns over the Spanish banking sector have led to further weakness in the euro and European exchanges as the IMF called for swift consolidation of the country's banking sector. • All of this uncertainty in Europe is leading to a difficult credit situation for the continent's banks where the cost of lending between them is rising. • Credit is not just becoming tighter in Europe, but worldwide, as investors are now beginning to fear the threat of European debt contagion and a potential double-dip recession. U.S. government debt is now showing some signs of the distress.

• The CEO of AIA, the Asian division of AIG, has said he will quit if the company's takeover by the UK's Prudential goes through. He sees the deal as "unworkable."

• BP has come under further pressure this morning for the slow progress of its cleanup and attempts to stop the flow of oil coming out of the Deepwater Horizon leak. The company has offered $500 million to research the damages of the spill. See our latest update of where the oil slick is headed >

• Markets seem to be predicting an Australian interest rate cut as a result of a slowing economy brought down by a drag on the country's mining sector. The country, which was an early rate hiker, is now likely to cut rates.

That Kardashian person I'd never heard of until a couple of months ago. Saw a picture of her on a market tabloid while in a check out line and for the life of me I have no idea what the hell I'm supposed to find so fascinating about her.

Not that I care mind you.

North and South Korea are in some serious sabre rattling right now. I really hope things settle down, the last thing the world needs is another major war.

It could be just that sort of question where Kim Jong Il is concerned. I do see your point though. There was NO real reason that they'd blow up a South Korean boat.

Then again, the Chinese that smacked into one of our planes way back in 2001, didn't have a reason either.

If it were me betting money, I'd be looking at the Chinese.

Now, before you ask, I'll tell you why.

The Chinese actually stand to gain large, if WE go to war with North Korea. Not to mention that if it got out of hand, they could literally destroy us financially. They also don't like North Korea very much, and we'd be essentially doing their dirty work.

I have seen first hand how Chinese people deal with their problems in my neighborhood, and they use other people to get things done that they themselves don't want to dirty their hands with, as they have to live next door to a bad neighbor.

Think of the Chinese, as Israel Light.

China destroying us economically would also mean that they go down. That's why they haven't done it yet. You can't strangle your best customer by the throat without strangling your own throat in the process. Without us buying their cheap shoddily made crap, their entire industrial economy goes bye bye.

We also have the know how to quickly put our industrial base back together. Most plants closed from the 80's forward, many of the people around then are still around now. Ultimately we have a better educated, potentially highly productive population. China can't beat that. If they want to go down suicide road, they need to wait until we have no idea what the word "factory" means, let alone still have them sitting around nearly pristine but uninhabited. They're pragmatists in the long view, they've no doubt taken that into consideration. Now is not the time for them to play us off against somebody else.

how you gonna put the industrial base back together when china is outbidding us for oil, as global oil supplies decline?

or are we just gonna have to nuke china and russia, as per the project outlined by our perfectly sane neocons, and be done with it?
