Students at a Southern California high school are getting an "F" in sensitivity and compassion after designing a game mocking the Holocaust. Their Facebook page the group "Beat The Jew" outlined the rules: A willing person, "the Jew" is blindfolded and brought to a point on Highway 111 in La Quinta. The other team, "the Nazis", is in cars and try to catch, tackle and capture "the Jew". "I cannot understand why they would have this kind of insensitivity, it's beyond my understanding, I'm profoundly disappointed," says La Quinta High School Principal Donna Salazar. Salazar says about 40 students are involved, and they say this is becoming a popular game for teens in the Coachella Valley. "I don't understand why they could make light of something that is so unimaginably horrible for so many people," Salazar says. The principal says the students are well educated about the Holocaust. The page was shut down this week. The principal says she spoke with her supervisor, La Quinta police and attorneys. The students can't be suspended because it didn't happen at school. Meanwhile, the student who reported the group has left school, fearing retaliation. It's not yet known if she will feel safe enough to walk with her class at graduation next month.
