LA County Libertarian Examiner With seemingly never-ending angst and bickering over Arizona's recent immigration law SB 1070, proponents and supporters of the law have used several arguements in defense of it. ''It's 100% Constitutional, it simply mirrors existing federal law'', they insist. They will go on to assure that no 'racial profiling' is involved, that people won't be stopped based on race, and that people can only be asked for ID after they are stopped for legitimate and legal just cause, such as an alleged traffic violation. This brings me to my question which addresses the very crux of the issue. Do supporters of this law believe that police were, until passage of SB 1070, legally and legitimately prohibited from demanding ID from those whom they lawfully detain? If so, that is quite an outrageous and absurd contention. The fact is that police have always been lawfully allowed to request identification after legitimately detaining a suspect. 'But they had to do SOMETHING', they'll reply, 'the feds refuse to halt the hoards of illegals!' While true, that the feds have purposely allowed massive illegal immigration for decades, please stick with the point at hand and simply address the question I am asking. Do you actually believe that cops across the United States have no authority to ask for ID unless each state legislature passes a 'special law' allowing them to do so? If you belive this, why do you believe it? Who taught you such nonsense? You don't get it do you ...or you just don't read.....ITS ALREADY A LAW ON THE BOOKS THAT THEY DON"T ENFORCE ...thinking some new law is going to solve the problem please get grip....I'll mark you down as a supporter of the National ID Card
As I've said already on this thread, we have lots of laws that are ignored for various reasons. The Governor of AZ, with 1070, has taken the brakes off Federal law that already exists. No problemo in my book.
OK I give up....I'm sure this law will be the magic bullet you think it will be and solve all of Az's illegal problem's with weeks of its enactment ...
it's a step in the right direction. You have very poor understanding of the law. First off you will not need to show papers, so toss out the swill Olbermann, the ACLU, La Raza and the Kenyan have told you. Secondly it's my understanding that Arizona requires proof of citizenship or legal residency to get a drivers license as does California and many other states. So a valid state DL will be sufficient for ID should an illegal, lets say, runs into the back of your Ford Pinto. So Robby my boy, remove those panties of yours from your butt crack and enjoy the ambiance that AZ has to offer.
VERY easy solution and a "common sense" request. However, how do you get the Feds to ENFORCE the laws on the books? The Feds are responsible to enforce federal law, yet they continue to issue orders to those they employ to "cease and desist". The issue of a National I.D. card is on the table merely to confuse the public. As long as the pols can keep us confused and our attention off the role they play in the problem, the longer they can count on the vote of Hispanics. SO ... we end up at square one again. VOTE ... and vote every sitting politician OUT of office. It takes our elected representatives about 24 hours to understand they have to play the game to stay in office. It takes the elected representatives another 24 hours to forget WHO voted them into office. After that they are in lock step with the puppet masters. The upcoming election may be the last for the legal citizens of this country to save their republic. If we don't get together as a "team" and remind each and every elected official who it is that originally put them into office, then shame on us. Oh, by the way, it doesn't matter if there is a "R", "D" or other "party" identification after the name of those on the ballot. There is only ONE party in this country and all answer to the same puppet masters!

Stop wandering around the issue like a Jew lost in a desert. As I said above,
a legally obtained DL will satisfy 1070. Golly, what a tough law. Not.
You better check your facts on what's required for getting a Az or Cal DL
if even the conversation about this new law causes some of the illegals who are already in AZ to go back to Mexico and/or discourages others from entering, that's a positive in my book. if the feds plan is a National ID card, that's going to happen regardless of AZ's 1070.

Christine as you know I don't agree with John on a lot of things the 10 th Amendment has long since been done away with thanks to the creation of the EPA it is not relevant any more to any debate ,STATES HAVE NO RIGHTS the 10th Amendment is dead, just like the 4th Amendment or have you forgotten that as well states can pass all the legislation they want it does not trump the federal.because all DC has to do is with hold funds and the states fold like a cheap suit that being said you guys are playing into hands of supporting a National ID Card in the mis-guided hope it's going solve the problem....good luck and good bye
don't know if you'll see this or not, but regarding the National ID card...for all intents and purposes we have it, don't we? isn't that what a DL essentially is now? i don't know how long ago you renewed your DL, but when i last renewed mine, i had to ink my thumb print as well as provide my SS#. in Texas, auto insurance is mandatory and if stopped we're required to show proof of that as well.

My DL in Az is good till 2017 I renewed it in 2004 ....case closed
No fingerprint required in Ohio, SSN can be declared off limits to the government license agency (you can refuse) and you have a lot of time 48 hours I think to show proof of insurance here. We also have in the last 1.5 years, I just found out, liberalized our gun laws to be in accordance with Arizona. Full open carry, no license, no cop can bear down on you for having a loaded gun on your hip in public "just because", and the open carry ruling means all places, not just certain towns. ORC 9.68(c)1. We're getting jiggy here. Now if we could just flush all of the statists out of the system we'd be golden! :)
